Ok, I was trying to download music to my new mp3 player and when I plugged it up on my 4 yr old computer it said it would work because I needed a hi-speed USB port. So I went and bought one and installed it. When I tried to install the software that came with the PCI card it said not compatible with windows xp. But It does recognize the mp3 player when it is plugged into the new 2.0 USB port but one again gives me the error that i have plugged my hi-speed device into a non hi-speed USB port. I am completely lost on this one. I have tried to find drivers from various websites but am unable to find one for my model. It is a Compaq Presario 5000 desktop. Any ideas on what to try next???

I've been working to fix this semi-old computer. When I start it up, there's a message on the screen that it says there's not operating system on the hard drive when I just reformatted it with no problem and Windows loaded and ran just fine. But then we moved the harddrive back to it's place and it started coming up with the same message. I've tried all different jumper combinations which worked earlier for it, but now they're not working. So we tried to reformat the hard drive again, and it says there's not hard drive attached to the computer. So all that to say: I NEED HELP!!!

Is there any way to fool it into printing? This sucks I need to print my paper for school I can't afford 30.00 worth of ink right now. I think it is set up this way to force you to buy more ink.

I know that it is a desktop replacement, but I really need good battery life with a big screen.

For example, using quickplay (it comes wih it) will I be able to watch a 3 hour movie from start to end with battery life to spare?

OR

for example, I am in a car doing HW and I have the BrightView screen on a medium setting. How long will I be able to do simple word processing or PowerPoint making?

OR

For example, I am on a bench at college, and I am browsing the Internet and listening to music.. How long will I be able to do this?

Once again, with the HP Pavilion dv9000z series.
It doesnt say anywhere online what the estimated battry life is!

I have just got a laptop that is a Gateway. I really am disappointed in the sound quality of the speakers. I had Altec Lansing ones on my last Compaq laptop and they sounded fairly decent. But I have to keep this laptop, so is it possible to upgrade to some good speakers?
Will sound quality be just as good as a stereo?

I'm not going to explain why. I would only insult the intelligence of those who can understand why and overestimate the intelligence of those who can't. These boards do exist, but there is not a site I am comfortable buying from. Though this is probably also a waste of time considering some of the answers I've read. For example, to the feasible and useful question "should i get a secured credit card?" I read only insults. There are obviously good reasons for the card, and it can be very useful. Yahoo! should hire a staff to filter out the offensive answers. This is a question and answer site by intention, not a place for people to get a rush from insulting people without fear of retaliation and claim superior intelligence without proving it by actually answering the question.
