I've been working to fix this semi-old computer. When I start it up, there's a message on the screen that it says there's not operating system on the hard drive when I just reformatted it with no problem and Windows loaded and ran just fine. But then we moved the harddrive back to it's place and it started coming up with the same message. I've tried all different jumper combinations which worked earlier for it, but now they're not working. So we tried to reformat the hard drive again, and it says there's not hard drive attached to the computer. So all that to say: I NEED HELP!!!

Make sure the jumper on the hard drive is set to Cable Select, make sure the cable is installed correctly (pin1 to pin1), and don't have anything else connected to the IDE cable except the hard drive. It could be that the IDE cable is bad and needs to be replaced.

The opnly issue you would come accorss is that if the computer is an HP. HP usuallyhas its personal fix CDs. So, once you're making a substitute to the unique pc (like including RAM or replacing a hardcontinual, or mom Board) the operating Syatem gained't understand the unique Hardware Configuration Settings on the hot and more advantageous pc, so it may no longer run and also you are able to wish an aftermarket operating Syatem (Like XP from Walmart). nonetheless, the in trouble-free terms thanks to be particular is to furnish it a bypass and discover out because I listen that HP hardwires their unique pc hardware configuration into their Motherboard, so through adjusting it, there would no longer be a issue.

did you format and install the OS on the same computer or did you do that on another computer and then changed it to the old one? If you did the latter, I don't think you can do that because windows configures itself to the hardware you have installed on the computer at the time windows is being installed. You can change the bios settings to have your pc boot from the windows cd, and then install the os on the computer it is to be used on.
