Lots of external drives are actually internsl drives put into a box with wiring to convert to, like USB. You can open the box and look at the drive, and if it is a simple IDE drive it should be installable as an internal.

Most are just IDE drives in an external case, so in most cases yes- it depends on the model you are looking at...
Not all are cased drives- there are a few that were styled to just be external, so look at it- if it looks like its a regular drive, the more than likely yes, if its stylized, then maybe not...
Again, more info is needed to say yes or no for sure...

yes you can all an external drive is is a internal drive with a casing and power/data hook ups.
