Hardware - February 2007

i have noticed that this card requires extra power , by connecting a power cable between the card and the power supply... but the power cable requires 2 "4 pin head" to be connected, is it okay if I caonnect only one "4 pin head" to the power cable?
It's a bit confused... hope u guys understand >.<

My CD drive is working fine but the DVD drive disappeared about a month ago, and it does not even show up in My Computer. I have tried a few things but nothing seems to work. I have about a 3 year old Dell desktop and this is the only problem i have had with it.

My computer is a Dell Tower Model 4550. My CD-RW Drive is a NEC NR-9100A 108A I have shut down the computer. It does not have a CD inside. When there is one, sometimes it engages the CD, sometimes not. It is opening part way and closing, all the way or part way, then a bit back, then out again, like a dance!

i am running 3 hard drives and a DVD/rom on my gateway computer, when i test it at PCPITSTOP.com they tell me the hard drive on my secondary IDE has a very low uncached speed..ive tried different solutions to no avail so ive been trying to install a 80 conductor cable onto that secondary IDE drive but it will not take it..( both drives are jumpered to cable select)...the set up works fine using an older 40 conductor cable except for the lowered performance on that hard drive,,,why wont a secondary drive accept a 80 conductor cable????

When turned on and go into office 2003 the JKL keys print 123 and the num lock key has no effect on the situation. Does anyone know how ot fix this problem?

I have a Dell Dimension 5320 and it runs Windows XP the Home Edition. I accidently erased the sound properties off of my hard drive and desperatly need the sound back due to online classes and school work. Can anyone point me to the light at the end of the tunnel?

OK, here's the deal. I tried to upgrade my comp with a SATA300 PCI adapter & new hard drive. Somehow after doing so, my monitor gets nothing at all from my comp.

I've tried putting everything back as it was, resetting the bios, and pretty much everything else... but no dice.

As a last ditch effort, I bought a GeForce 7300 GS PCI Express card, but that's not working either. Only thing I can think of is that the onboard card needs to be disabled - but I can't get into BIOS or Windows to do so.

Any thoughts, or am I just SOL?

I have to buy a new computer, and i want everything fully loaded, because i am a 3d modeler, i use Maya, 3ds Max and all does softwares that need alot of memory, video card, and processor power...so please help me with this....and one more last thing...which processers are better amd, core, or intel ?

Hey i'm 15, and i have got a Ibook G3..so pretty old but good for my first mac that i bought myself..my family computer is a Microsoft..cause they all hate apple!! and i was wondering will my apple never get viruses..if so how does this protection work...cause i know on microsoft you have to have all this zone alarm and rubbish!! so can you explain to me how it works...??

I have 512mb of ram and I use about 470mb and my computer sometime it just crash out of the blue. I use register cleaner and I optimize my computer to clean all the crap off it but it still crash. What could it be.

These two chips are the same price. However, I have a motherboard I want to use that only accepts no higher than dual core, not the new Core 2 Duo. Is it worth it to buy a new motherboard, or just use the mobo I have, and buy the Intel Pentium D 945 3.4GHz LGA775 CPU? (I have no CPU for this motherboard yet)

Is it really worth the extra money for a new mobo?

hi, I wonder if anybody can help me, I want to know if there is such a machine that can read telephone numbers. What I needed to do is, read telephone numbers from a second-hand ad magazine. I want to go to the ad magazine and find anything as for sale locally without having to go through every ad and read every telephone number just will find out if they are local. I want a sort of scanner that I can just run all the page and it will recognise a local telephone number, obviously preprogrammed. Please help thank you M.O.Rowlands.

On the BSOD it says this:
