Hardware - February 2007

i have two hard disk drives:

80 gb
160gb

both of these are dead and wont power up.
is there a way i can fix them?

I have a 2000 HP notebook and the computer is a piece of ****. I am pretty sure that the computer was broke when I bought it so it has had its ups and downs. My question to you is that I am unable to even open the internet explorer window. When I try this tiny thing flashed on my screen and the window closes. I have even downloaded MSN from a disk and still no help. So if you could please help that would be amazing.

I typically refill the HP cartridges with special ink and they work just fine. I can repeat this 4-5 times, but then refilling will not work. I tried to rinse of the print head with water and alcohol, but still no printing even though the cartridge is full.

Any advice?

ok i have 4 working ram slots in my mother board,I had a gig to start with added 512 with no problem but when i go to insert the other 512 my monitor doesnt come on.I know that slot works because i switched them out to make sure.

I noticed some clearance laptops on bestbuy.ca but a number of them were cheaper if they were labeled as "French". I presume this means that they have a French OS but does this mean they would be unusable to someone who doesn’t speak any French (such as myself)?

I don't know wether I'm just being thick, but in the manual it says I have bluetooth, I also have a bluetooth button, but when I press it it tells me 'No bluetooth device'...does this mean I don't have it?...or I'm missing drivers? Also, does the fact I'm running on Vista make a difference?

system install cd, does that mean all i have to do is install it and i will have that operating system on that computer with no problems? and how hard is it to install an operating system?

I have an Epson Stylus C40UX Printer. Recently, I purchased brand new ink cartridges on ebay for a great price. However, when I installed it, the ink level indicator read that the cartridge was only half full. I believe that the cartridges were generic (not Epson brand) and that this might be the reason why I got them so cheap. What do you think?
Can you recommend any online sites where a can get good quality refill cartridges at a really good price (where with S&H, it's cheaper than buying it in the store? Thank you.

P.S. By the way, the brand name of the cartridges that I purchased on ebay is G&G.

My computer is acting strange, it keeps turning off alot and very shortly after I turn it on, sometimes it wont turn on at all. I checked my fan, it is clear however my heat sync is boiling hot, and so is my processor chip which is covered with chalky white residue. It's too hot to touch. What has happened? :S

Earlier today, I was able to watch a video on YouTube, and the sound was just fine. Several hours later, I went to play a game, and I found I had no sound at all. I then tried playing some music. Nothing. I went and turned my mic on to see if I could hear any ambient sounds (like rubbing my fingers on the boom of it), and still nothing. Then I went to plug in my speakers, and still no sound. Mind you, I keep the volume at max at all times... did I blow out my sound card?

I bought a computer at a second hand store,and it has Xp home
on a 4gb HD. i put a 40GB HD in it and it says it it a dif Hard Drive.

I have seen Firewire 400 and 800 pci cards, plus SATA and SATA-2 pci cards. However, I thought that PCI only transfer a maximum of 266/mb a sec, whereas these interfaces are much quicker. How does this work and is there a bottleneck/speed decrease when using such cards?

I decided to fry my motherboard (!) and so needed a new one. I installed an ASROCK P4i65G with my original Radeon 9550 card. I added an extra 512MB ram, and have installed all the latest drivers/updates etc etc after re-installing XP with SP2.

Has anyone any ideas why it is running soooooo slowly? It was fine with my older mobo.
