Are they configured correctly? One set to master, the other to slave?

Make sure they are both plugged in with the molex power connectors.

Is your Power Supply failing? Is your psu wattage enough?

That is very suspicious that both would just die. The probabilities are fairly low for that to happen.

It must be a power connection, or a configuration problem.

Also, make sure your OS is on the primary drive.

You absolutely cannot open them up and fix them. They are sealed under near vacuum conditions to prevent any dust from being inside the case. One speck of dust will ruin the entire hdd.

first, turn your computer off and open the case up. look at them and make sure that they are both plugged into the power source. they should both have cables attached to them that have red, yellow, white, and black wires coming out of them. second, make sure that they are both connected to the motherboard with that wide-*** gray cable. i would say it's about an inch to two inches wide. also, make sure that you formatted both hard drives. if both are connected to the motherboard and power supply, and both are formatted, and they still dont work, it could be a motherboard problem, a power supply cable problem, or they could both be corrupted by a virus and therefore quite possible have crashed and will no longer work. I hope not, but it is possible

If you've followed the advice of the third answer and they still don't spin up, seal them in a ziploc bag and put them in the freezer for several hours. Then, while still frigid, reinstall them in the computer to see if they spin up. The "freezer trick" will sometimes allow you to access a failing drive one last time in order to save your documents.
