Let me tell you some thing.
All motherboards are pre-designed such that it supports only some amount of memory which the manufacture have mentioned.
Let us come to some hypothesis like:
1) May be your board don't support 1GB RAM capacity.
There may be four slots. But they are supposed for upto 768/640MB only. (512+256=768MB, 512+128=640MB)
Then try putting 256/128MB and check if it works.
2) Try only same type of RAM.
That's only DDR1 type RAM of 512MB.
From my experience, the first hypothesis is more of chance.

Check your motherboard manual. Often, with four slots, you need to use the slots in a specific order if you have more than one stick and it is usually not 1, 2, 3, 4. I would try using slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 if you can't find the manual. Beyond that, it may be that one of your RAM sticks is dead but since you talk about checking if the slot works, I would guess you've already checked that both RAM sticks work if they are the only stick in the computer.

well this could be a faulty with the RAM, have you tried the the 512 on its on in different slots, since it could also be an incompatibility between the different types of ram.

it could be the stick of memory. If you swap the two 512 does it say that you have the right amount of memory or does it only count one of the 512? static electricity can mess up a stick of memory. if you weren't properly grounded when you handled the stick of memory, it could've gotten messed up. take it to the store you bought it at and see if they can get you a refund or figure out whats going on. good luck!

many extra contemporary desktops do no longer paintings wisely with 2 sticks of reminiscence that are no longer equivalent in length. additionally the ram you're attempting to function won't be the suited style/speed for the gadget. we might prefer to appreciate what style of gadget you have and what style of ram you have been attempting to function to it.

Some motherboards are VERY picky with 4 RAM sticks installed.

It might never work with 4 sticks.

are you sure you have the same type of ram, if not it won't work. i had this problem with a biostar board and ended up having to flash the bios. check your ram first.
