My computer is acting strange, it keeps turning off alot and very shortly after I turn it on, sometimes it wont turn on at all. I checked my fan, it is clear however my heat sync is boiling hot, and so is my processor chip which is covered with chalky white residue. It's too hot to touch. What has happened? :S

thanks in adv

You suspicion may be correct. I suggest to bring it to a shop and have it checked. New processors requires correct cooling systems. :) Good luck.

Processors are supposed to get hot, very hot. The white residue is actually thermal paste, it's there to protect the processor from melting to the heatsink. I would check your fan and make sure it's running fast enough, or you might check the power supply in case it's shorting out.

If the processor is bad the computer would not boot up at all.

It definitely sounds like a heat issue. How does the fan spin when you turn it on? Does it make noises?

Try taking the side panel off and directing a larger fan on the heatsink, see if that helps out a bit.

If it does, then you probably would need to buy a new fan for the heatsink. You might even want to buy a nicer heatsink to go with it.
