Ok, I'm looking to spend the least amount of money as every shopper tries! I noticed that "i books" G3 (I believe) are relatively cheap...about 300 or 400 dollars. But i also happen to notice that the macbooks are much more expensive. Now, I want to know if there is a site that I can check out refurbished apple notebooks because I do plan on buying it pre-owned. Any information will be helpful...thanks!!

More info, I cam back from a trip and my pc power LED on the back of my Compaq that is usually solid green when I have power, was flashing green. I talked to the support guy but he was useless. He said its either my motherboard, processor, or power supply.

Would it be easier to just get a barebones kit that comes with a new motherboard, processor, and power supply and just transfer my h.d., dvd-rom, cd-rom, floopy, etc. hardware components over to the barebones or would it just be easier to get a new PC.

I found some sweet deals on barebone kits but not sure if I should go with AMD or and Intel processor?

If anyone can give advice about this issue it would be a great help just want to get my main pc in the house back up and running again.

Cheers

I have an Inspiron B130 laptop with a CD-RW/DVD drive; I can play/burn CD's--but only play DVD's on that drive.I also have a Samsung DVD-R130 Player Burner.

I burned some TV shows from old videotapes onto DVD-R's. The type of DVD-R's I used were blank Sony DVD's)

The recorded DVD's play fine in the DVD player (the player/recorder). But when I put them into my notebook, they do not play. They do not show up as a source in My Computer.

I'm stumped. I tried to contact Dell and run Diagnostics. The diagnostics failed, and a new drive is being sent to me for my notebook.

The question is this....aren't CD-RW/DVD drives supposed to play MOST dvd's--even homemade ones?

Regular DVD's play fine, and music cd's also play fine. But DVD-R's will not. I'm worried the same thing may happen with the new drive. And I've never noticed this before, since I usually use music CD's, software, or regular DVD's in my laptop.

Help please....Thanks!

My computer came from my office because they give them away every 3 years and I've had it for a lot of months now and just realized it has no USB outlet. Is there something you can buy that will plug into something else on the computer or am I screwed? Should I buy a new computer....or would buying a new computer be cheaper? Or, if there is something, where can I find it and/or what is it?

OK here's the story. I have a compaq persario and I've only had it for like 7 mouths. Anyway my dad made me a cd with files from my old desktop. Well while I was transfuring files from the cd to my laptop my cd player started making noise. I didn't think much of it while the cd was woring. I just thought It was working hard. Well after I got the files out I went to watch a dvd on my computure. Well when I put the dvd I playd in the media player like I always do. Well no it will open but the sound and pictures skips. its like ah-jah-je-na- and its not just good. I really don't want to have to send my compture in becuase I'am a college stundent and can't really afford to lose the computure. Dose anybody have any ideas? Thanks so much for your help!

Okay, let me try to explain this the best way I can...
I just purchased a new phone which will connect thru the computer..but I have a problem..There is a Ethernet cord that comes with it. but the cord won't fit into the back of my computer. it is too big. my slots are the size of a regular phone jack cord. Im figuring it's because my computer is too old (i've had it since 97)..now my question is, Is there such a device that I can put on the Ethernet cable in order to convert it to the size of the jack? i hope this makes sense..but if it doesn't and you need further info, just let me know..thanx a whole lot!

I have just bought an I/OMagic USB EXTERNAL CD/RW and when I hit the EJECT BUTTON the door will open, but it closes so fast I cannot insert a disk. IT IS installed correctly, Windows picks it up OK, it is listed in My Computer with the correct ICON. I have also went to Properties and used the troubleshooter and it states that the devise is working PROPERLY. It is also listed in my Devise Manager. I have uninstalled it 3 times and reinstalled it and I get the same problem. I have an up to date driver with it also. It will READ a Data and IMAGE Disk that I made awhile back with no problem. It will also NOT PLAY an AUDIO CD. I have set it to Analog instead of Digital and that does not help. Any help out there?????????? (I have to hold the door open for a second by hand so I can put a disk in)
