More info, I cam back from a trip and my pc power LED on the back of my Compaq that is usually solid green when I have power, was flashing green. I talked to the support guy but he was useless. He said its either my motherboard, processor, or power supply.

Would it be easier to just get a barebones kit that comes with a new motherboard, processor, and power supply and just transfer my h.d., dvd-rom, cd-rom, floopy, etc. hardware components over to the barebones or would it just be easier to get a new PC.

I found some sweet deals on barebone kits but not sure if I should go with AMD or and Intel processor?

If anyone can give advice about this issue it would be a great help just want to get my main pc in the house back up and running again.

Cheers

I do not believe it is your power supply because it would not flash green. Anyway if you decide to buy a motherboard/CPU combo then yes you can transfer your hard drive and other components onto that motherboard. Even if you want to buy all three parts it will not cost you a lot of money. I use to buy a lot of my parts from directron.com because they are very affordable and have quality parts. The processor is the most expensive part but it depends on what type. If you just want a Pentium 4 for example then you can get the CPU,motherboard and power supply for probably about $150 total. So $150 compared to hundreds for a new computer. If you feel like you are up to taking your system apart which is not hard. I personally do not use AMD but I sell them to people who request AMD. I have been building systems for over 8 years and it is just a personal brand perference that's all. And beside after you swap those 3 parts and see which one is the culprit then you send back the parts that you didn't need and get a refund. It always makes sense to replace your parts then to buy a brand new system. People always buy new systems everytime something goes wrong and that is just a waste of money.

in case you want your device you may improve it is all tremendous. Too many snobs obtainable. With a druon you've what's termed amd socket A. there are some moderatly ok cpu's obtainable which will in good structure that socket. you isn't waiting to run vista although. Vista is a sixty 4 bit OS, and all socket A chips are really 32 bit. because of your bios and how previous that's you've the max quantity of ram you may help. also the fastest cpu you may help is a a million.4ghz amd athlon it fairly is a "thunderbird" center. you're constrained to cpu's that use 100mhz fsb chips. be careful in case you improve the cpu, you'd be procuring a cpu it fairly is an athlon and matches into socket A yet you motherboard can't help because it is too quickly. I also agree for you to probable only improve to an entire new pc. you may also ward off dropping money through shopping for a tower really because you've already got a visual demonstrate unit, keyboard and mouse. to boot some thing this previous will not be able to play any new recreation or video games released interior the perfect 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. you should be able to hit upon a deal on a pc domestically which will wail on what you've now. only remeber to search for some key issues. 1GB of ram at least, fantastically for vista, a sixty 4 bit cpu, they are opretty without delay ahead, amd athlon sixty 4, x2, am2, intel center 2 duo. in case you want to recreation do not get some thing it fairly is integrated or no less than depart your ideas open and get some thing with a pci convey slot, so that you'll develop later. i wish this facilitates, and don't be afraid to ask extra questions and set a funds. Watch the commercials contained in the close by paper for deals and note what you may get on your money.

I had a motherboard fry on me a few years ago, and I bought a new motherboard to replace it. Installed it, started it up, and got a bunch of nice beeps saying the motherboard was not working again.

All in all, I fried one and my local PC repairshop fried two more before we figured out that there was a short in the video card that was zapping the motherboard.

Luckily I only had to pay for one board, but could have been expensive if I was doing this myself from a barebones kit.

For me I found it has been cheaper to buy a full replacement and then use the old PC for parts and experimentation. But hey that's just me...

Go to your local bestbuy or computer store and buy a new powersupply costs about $20-$30 (Do not ever buy one online, even if it is in a kit). If replacing the powersuppy does not work, get rid of the whole thing and buy a new computer.

I lost $800 in computer equipment to a faulty barebone kit. When I tryed to upgrade my system. My luck I got two faulty Power supplies.

after all the money it would cost for a brand new motherboard, processor, and power supply, you are better off just buying a whole new computer. it will cost a lot less trust me.

id buy a powersupply then MB then CPU
