If your doing graphics, then go for an apple. They have by far some of the best graphics programs out there (and now they can run window's!) They are more expencive, but they are worth it.
I personaly will not ever own another apple after my Apple II GS back in the day (and Im only 20), because I do video gamming and like the ability to upgrade. But whatever you do just dont buy a Dell, go for an HP, they are just as cheap.

Hi there! If you have a budget I first would suggest to get Dell. Apple may be a good suggestion but I understand you find it rather expensive. Just get a Dell laptop with a high graphics memory at least 256MB. It's quite good because a lot of my client's response from using Dell is highly satisfactory. Dell addresses all their concerns. As for Acer, I have customers who have problems with their Acer that takes months to resolve and some are not even fixed. My recommendation is don't get Acer. Good luck and hope I help a little.

A MacBook starts around $1100 and comes with very good specs. If you price Dell or others with comparable specs, you'll probably find the Mac to be competitive.
You can't beat a Mac for graphics, video, and other creative pursuits.

I was going to suggest Toshiba, since I saw a very good experience with it for 2 following models. Anyway, Dell is good choice too. Keep a way from Compaq, and hp, i don't personally recommend. You should be looking for processor not Celeron and not less than 512 MB RAM and 128 MB VGA Card, that would be good for your work.
