My client has a 3com 56k officeconnect modem. I can ping the unit and it works when trying to connect out to the internet. However when I try to access it remotely i.e from a browser on the same network via http://192.168.1.1 I get no page found (192.168.1.1 is the default gateway for teh network).

Why is this happening? - I need to be able to get in and change teh dial up access number as they have gone from 7 to 10 digit dialling.

ideas???

I am looking for a wireless keyboard and mouse that'll work @ 5 metre range reliably. PC World techie tells me most except the cheapest belkin ones works fine. Oh i don't like the curvey microsoft keyboards. I read a review that said with bluetooth if you need to change the bios such as change the boot order, u can't. And that rechargeable mice tend to be bulky. So it's IR or RF ?

I was thinking about getting the dell xps 400 but i dont want to buy something i will regret buying later. i would like an educated opinion on if its worth the money or if tyheir is someting better out there. the one i want comes with the nvidea 9800 gtx card and a 30 in wide screen flat panal moniter. it lookes like decent specs but im not a computer wiz by any means lol. you can find all the specs on on their xps website. I have also heard that dell dosent make the best computers so if anyone knows why, that would be helpfull as well, is it because of the programming?. The computer in total will cost about 1500 dollars.

I'm going to college this fall and am looking around for a good laptop to carry with me. I'm considering an apple because I've heard that they are reliable and don't crash. I'm open to any and all suggestions for good deals. I want something that can handle a lot of writing and can play games possibly (like world of warcraft). It's not required that it can do video games, though, because it's mainly for school (but it'd be a plus!). I want my laptop to have 1GB of RAM, wireless capabilities, portability, reliability, and hopefully cost under $1,200. =) Thank you.

OK -- here it is, August 2006. Blue Ray was established in 2003 (and later revised). Later in that same year, HD-DVD showed up. Now, 3 years later, both of these technologies not so "Cutting Edge" as say 3-D storage space and other formats on the horizon, is there any clear potential winner in this slow and Bureaucratic-laden race?

My old computer is slow, very slow. It's a costum built computer (made by CompUSA) designed for Windows 95. However when I bought it, it had Windows 98 installed on it. It has a:
4Mhz Intel Celeron Processor.
48MB memory (I may have installed more memory on it)
4.3 GB harddrive
56k Modem

Well I want to delete everything from the computer and install Linux. However because the computer is so old and slow I have no Idea how to connect it to the internet.
Should I install Linux on my old computer? If yes can I download the software onto my current computer, burn it to a disc and then install it on the Windows (blank CD or a DVD)?

If I shouldn't install Linux how do I delete all the data on my old computer without getting rid of windows 98? I want to clear everything from the computer except for the applications that originally came with it.
Where should I start? Is there a guid that I could follow?

Almost everywhere you look nowadays, you can see a new notebook advertised for $399 to $499, after rebates. These poorly equiped laptops are destroying the value of older laptops. And I'm not talking about 2000 built laptops, I'm talking about laptops sold 3 months ago. I've tried selling a 1500 laptop I bought less than 3 months ago and the best offers I got were 500 bucks. Of course these fools don't realize that the cheapos at Best Buy are poorly equiped and mine is packed to the gills. Whatever. It's total market saturation.

The fan just doesn't turn on when the computer gets hot. I'm not having any problems like the computer shutting down automatically, but worried that the processor will overheat or something. Should I get a new fan and replace it myself or call geeksquad or something? HELP!
