It is probably loaded up with goop and dust. Get some compressed air, open the casing and blow it out. It also could be unplugged or bad. Once you get it working, blow it out at least once every few months. I have to do this my mine or it shuts off real easy, too. If it hasn't overheated to the point of damage yet, you are lucky. The circuit breaker is doing its job, but that may not last much longer. Definitely clean it out, plug it in or replace it fast!

Depends on whether your fan is meant to run continuously. I have an Acer that has a very quiet low-flow fan, but also another fan that kicks in when I use the dvd drive.
I recommend you keep good backups, and make sure you are always in a well-ventilated area.

I would replace it myself, but of course I've worked on that system before. If you are not comfortable replacing the fan, don't do it yourself. You can also run the 32-bit Diagnostics (it is on one of the CDs you received with the laptop) to test the fan.

Yes, my Dell runs hot too and that's with the fan on. Please call Dell customer service. Their very good. Or if this is a used computer call Geek Squad!

you need to replace the fan and put off your pc befor the pc burns out the fan is dead if you go on using the pc with the fan dead the pc will die then your need a new pc get that pc off and have a new fan put in fast
