My CD drive is a samsung CD-RW, my DVD drive is a Lite-on DVD-R, they have both been working ever sense i went on vacation about a week ago, and now, its like they disappeared off of my computer. i can still open and close them, but, when i put a CD in, it doesnt read them. They also dont show up in the device manager.

you can try uninstalling your drive and reinstalling it
go into device manager
right click on my computer
click on manage
click on device manager
expand your cd roms
right click on your burner
click on uninstall
then at the top of the chain in device manager you should see your computer name
right click on that
then click on scan for hardware changes
it should find and reinstall your burner

have you tried to reboot
have you tried to reinstall the driver

The drive needs to computer to work, you can't just hook it up to the TV, because the TV doesn't have the system or the drivers able to operate it. An external power adaptor has nothing to do with the ability to hook into a TV, it still needs a computer. To watch movies on a TV, you need a computer that can hook into a TV or you need a DVD player for the TV.

open the case and see if the cables became disconnected.

if not turn off the box
remove the cables
start the box
shut down the box
replace cables
start the box

if still not there, go to my computer - c drive
in the address bar type in "d:\", "e:\", or "f:\" [without quotes]
(whatever was your CD/DVD drives)

Check their connection with the motherboard. It's easy over time for a connector to get lose. Especially when there are computer cases with air channeling attachments to keep the CPU cool. the case can move the wires lose.

Check the IDE cable to the motherboard...it may have a bad connection.

if they disappeared somebody probably stole them and you should call the cops

go get a new computer or go to a store and get it fixed..
