Hardware - July 2006

I can't get my printer/copier/fax/scanner to do anything. It is all hooked up right and I don't know what else to do. Does anyone have any suggestions??

when i turn my computer on it acts like it going to boot then says A:\ HAS ERROR ON DISK. and when i put my win 98 or win 2000 cd. it say your computer doesnot have a hard disk or your hard disk is not functioning correctly i dont have a boot disk only boot cd win 98 and win 2000 exec can some please help me get my puter back up and it wont let me in ms dos thanks

Hi
i have a celeron 433 mhz pc which i am trying to upgrade to celeron 900 mhz.it has 370 socket and maximum bus speed of 100mhz which suits the new processer. replacing the processer is not the problem but when i turn the computer on the monitor(compaq S710) does not show anything the green light of monitor turns on and off repeatedly. if i disconnect the data cable it shows message "no signal"just like normal monitor will do but as soon as i connect the data cable it does the same on off thing.further if i switch back to my old cpu i.e celeron433 mhz ,it works fine..

any help would be much appreciated.

When I tell the pc to shutdown (the usual > Start > Turn off compute ...> Turn Off) it shuts off then starts up again as if I had chosen to Restart it.
Does anyone know why ?
(Windows XP service pack 2 on an MSI K8 motherboard with enforce 3 and a Sempron 3000+)

Just curious, should I leave it on all the time or shut the PC down at night like I've been doing?
I alway's leave my DSL modem on 24/7 unless it storms, but was wondering about the PC.

In comparing these two processors, which would perform better?

In evaluating performance, I'm looking at battery life, heat output, and speed for basic computing (Msft Office, web browsing, etc) in a laptop.

I know the 3300 has a faster clock speed, but it seems the L2 cache and SOI (?) ratings are lower. Do these things matter, or is the 3300+ really a better option?

My CD/DVD Burner keeps failing anywhere between 25% and 50% through burns. I have downloaded the latest firmware. Is there any other software or tweaks I can do to burn successfully?

I have only one USB 2.0 on my computer. I have 8 USB; the rest are 1.0. How can I tell which one is 2.0? Device manager says it is located here: PCI bus 0, device 29, function 7. I need it for faster exchange with my external hard drive.

Nothing to add. It just plain won't turn on. It's only about 4 years old. It did give a message before my mother-law shut it down. Something about a power cord or something about power.
