If the A: drive is giving errors on the disk, then you have a bad floppy disk.
If your computer is stating things about your hard disk/drive is not functioning correctly, it means as such. Your hard drive is probably bad.
Booting from a CD will not solve your problem when trying to install Windows. Where is it suppose to install to if your hard drive is not function correctly?
I assume from all this, your hard drive is probably going bad. There's utilities on the web you can find that can validate whether or not your hard drive can be repaired. Try looking at the website of the company that made your hard drive and look for something with "hard drive".

You know that bigger hard drive you were thinking about getting? Will, it is time to do it. Sounds like your current drive is dead. Either the bearings have gone out and it is not spinning, or the head that read the disk is broken. Either way, there is no practical way of repairing it. Because the head can not read the hard drive to tell your computer it is there, it is looking to the floppy drive instead and giving the A drive error. And that is why the Windows CD says there is no drive present. Sorry.
So go buy a new drive, install Windows, and enjoy the new bigger and better drive.

first you need to take out the disk in drive a, but load bios normally F10 or Del on load and check the boot order. Also try loading in safe mode with F8
