Never buy windows software before the first service pack at the earliest. They tend to rush out the first release and plan to fix the bugs after it has gone live to meet arbitrary release dates.

As far as waiting in general, Vista probably won't be out for another 6 months to a year, so if you need a new computer now, buy it.

Windows Vista will not be released until sometime next year.

The OS will probably cost under 200 dollars, so you could buy a new computer right now, and upgrade to Vista when it comes out, save 200 dollars and wait. Or who knows they may raise the cost of a computer running Vista and maybe youll save nothing, now that they are going to have special "Vista Ready" stickers on them.

Honestly, I would just get yourself a really nice PC, running XP and youll do fine. I am a Vista Beta user and havent seen anything with Vista that a normal user could not live with. So go get yourself a computer!

Here are some things too look for if you eventually want to run Vista:

Vista won't be available to the public til Jan 07, or there abouts. That's a long wait. If you read the computer magazines, most of the up-grades from XP that Vista has, are already available inline for little or no cost. If I had the chance to buy a 3Ghz computer with 1 gig RAM for a good price, I'd go for it now.

Vista has been delayed several times an exact ship date is unknown, PLUS it will have bugs you can buy a Vista ready computer that you can later install vista later microsoft has released the specs, I have XP pro since 2001 and can say in the beginning it was troublesome (lack of drivers) but after SP1 it has been great

Forget all that. Buy one of the new Macs with the Intel chip that can run both Mac and PC software.

Vista is a DRM-centric "entertainment system". Avoid.
