My family is going to move into a new home that is being built now. My father is the electrician and I would like to run a network through at the same time. What supplies do I need to purchase (for ethernet jacks, cutting wire, etc.)? What are good websites where I can get this stuff?

I am trying to access my business PC with my Laptop using remote desktop connection. If am in in the building using the WIFI, it does error (doesn't recognize, connect anyway?) but lets me connect anyway. When I get home though, it won't connect (different error, won't connect). My PC at home won't connect either. Both PC's are running XP and the laptop is running Vista. I have used this program in teh past to connect to other computers and would like to try to work this out. Does anyone have any step by step solutions to get this running properly?

There is a PC on my network that I don't have admin rights to that has Limewire installed and it is taking up our monthly bandwidth usage. I have access to the secure Linksys and I was wondering if I could block the PCs Limewire downloads with the router.
TIA

Printer Sharing:

I have a wireless router with two PC’s connected to the internet wirelessly with no problem. One of the PC’s has a USB printer attached to it and this works fine.

How do set up the other wireless PC so that it can share the same printer? Simple step by step instructions would be much appreciated. Everyone tells me to just share the printer on the PC that is connected to the printer and on the other PC just add a printer by browsing but I cannot get it to work. Also I do not see either PC from one another. Am I missing something such as setting up a network?

I have a large network of computers with an ip range from 10.2.148.0 - 10.2.150.255. I want to be able to ping every computer in that address poll and then here is the important part

To output any computer that responds to a ping to a text file with just the IP address of a computer with each additional ip address on a separate line. Ideally this could be done using a command line but I have no idea how to do this. At the moment I can only ping one computer and when I output it to a text file using > test.txt I get the ping response and lots of other information which is not needed.

I really hope this makes sense as I have a big project relying on your answers.

Please help

Many Thanks

Chris

I have a USB WLAN card, which I use to get online on my laptop. When I connect the WLAN card, it instantly finds it and the windows zero config thing tells me that I am connected (But strangely I'm not recieving any data). When I open a web browser it just gives me an error saying it can't find the server.
The computer I'm using now is obviously working, so the connection should be getting through to the WLAN network.

I think it's a virus or trojan which is preventing me going online....I have run a full AVG virus-scan, but it hasn't solved the problem.....

Please please help!

I am the Network Administrator for a company that is moving to a new location and wishes to upgrade its computer systems and double the work force. Currently, the company has 35 employees running Windows 98 on a Windows NT 4.0 domain. 10 employees are in management, 5 are in programming, 5 are in sales, and 15 are in graphics and development. The company wishes to create a research team and provide me with an IT staff, as well as increase the size of the other teams. At the new location, the office is already wired for Internet connection. The Internet Service Provider has issued the company an IP address range of 128.174.7.0 to 128.174.7.64. I must provide a proposal that includes a Server solution, the amount of new computers, printers, and servers to purchase, and the Operating System to install. I must also create a plan for IP addresses of the computers and servers. Finally, I must add network printers and shared group permissions for printers and file server storage and be sure to provide the groups I create and the members of the groups.

I am new to this job straight out of college and am a little perplexed. I had some ideas, but I wanted to get some fellow IT pros opinions. Could someone please help me out in devising a simple enough plan?

Just bought a Xbox 360 and want to go Live.

My p.c. is upstairs connected to my TISCALI MODEM via the USB LEAD.

My Xbox 360 is downstairs next to a phone point.

Ideally i dont want to run wires through the house.

My modem for my p.c.has no insert for the Xbox 360 ETHERNET CABLE.

Ive read bits and bobs but am still not sure about how i do this...
Im guessing I need a WIRELESS ROUTER. If so which one is best, how much and where from???
Also what distance will it receive my broadband signal from???
Is there a list of what wireless routers are available with the XBox 360??? -(maybe i could get one free with my internet provider -Tiscali)

Is that all I will need or will I need a new MODEM? Anything else???

Thanks in advance to anybody who answers this brain teasing question!!!

Here is the deal. I am stationed on a military post for a couple mounths. There is a no wifi in the building I'm in but withing line of sight there is a building with wifi. We have permision to use the wifi. Can I hook up a tin can waveguide antenna, or Cantenna to my computer or a router in my building to get wifi in there? The building with the wifi has the antana built into the walls. Any suggestions would be great. One last thing will I have to set up any equipment at the building with the wifi?

We have a color printer, and people print stuff out all the time that is in color, but doesn't need to be. We want to create a batch file, or logon script that makes it so when they have a printer, their default printing is in black and white, not color. In a color printers preferences, there is a pull down option for black & white, or color. We just want it to always default on black and white. And solutions or answers would be appreciated very much!!

Where can I buy a cheap, two RJ-45 port ethernet splitter. I will use this for connecting to the internet on my pc and xbox live on my 360. (I DON'T NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ROUTERS, HUBS, OR SWITCHES!)

I have an Arris cm300a modem that is currently accessing internet to my pc, and I plan to get Xbox Live.

If you can, provide a website, please.

My desktop will only get around 30 kbps, and my laptop which is almost new will only get like 40 kpbs. Anyone have any suggestions about that? Both computers have really good modems. Also, will adding more RAM to my older computer speed up the Internet connection?
