So me explain further, I use the wireless chip for when I'm at school but when I am at home I want to use the cable modem for my connection since I do not have any wireless networks within range of my house. How do I set my computer up so it know to look for the cable modem and not the wireless connection?

The only way you can do that if your Cable Modem is a wireless cable gateway (wireless cable modem). But still what are you trying to accomplish by a redundant connection from the same device

You buy a wireless router and plug cable modem to the WAN port. This will allow you to share the Internet connection both wired and wirelessly......your option.

So now you have the option to be wired to the router through the Ethernet port or wirelessly through your wireless device in your laptop

You choose;-} wireless is the link from computer to hub.
The hub/router is connected physically to the cable modem.
Or you can use a direct LAN cable from computer to the hub.
