Just bought a Xbox 360 and want to go Live.

My p.c. is upstairs connected to my TISCALI MODEM via the USB LEAD.

My Xbox 360 is downstairs next to a phone point.

Ideally i dont want to run wires through the house.

My modem for my p.c.has no insert for the Xbox 360 ETHERNET CABLE.

Ive read bits and bobs but am still not sure about how i do this...
Im guessing I need a WIRELESS ROUTER. If so which one is best, how much and where from???
Also what distance will it receive my broadband signal from???
Is there a list of what wireless routers are available with the XBox 360??? -(maybe i could get one free with my internet provider -Tiscali)

Is that all I will need or will I need a new MODEM? Anything else???

Thanks in advance to anybody who answers this brain teasing question!!!

I believe your XBox 360 has a wireless card installed, you will need a wireless router to connect to your modem. Then your computer can wire into your router. If your modem is modem/router, then you don't need a router at all. Otherwise, you may ask your Internet provider to upgrade your modem free (you may talk them into this with your service contract). You don't need second modem. There are many good routers in the market now, and you don't need to get the top of the line one. Most of the router signals will reach at least 50 ft distance with walls in between.

Ok
The BEST and most reliable is to run a cable. But since this is out you need to get a router.

Make SURE your modem not only has a USB connection but also an Ethernet connection (this looks like large phone plug)

All wireless routers should work ok with your Xbox however you will need a Wireless adapter for your XBox 360 It only has wired built in.

Distance is an issue as you are using it between floors. I've found most wireless routers work better horizontally than vertically so you may have to adjust the positions of the adapters accordingly.

Take a look at my sources for more info

Question: Will the XBox work with a wireless connection? I'm not familiar with thier abilities, so I ask. If so, then you're fine. A wireless router will run between the Computer and the modem and you will need to set up the router on your computer as well as on the Xbox.

The distance depends a lot on the quality of the wireless router AND the thickness of the walls in between the XBox and the Router. Too many walls and your connection will suffer.
