how do i determine if my dial-up modem's connection speed is up to speed?... 56k that is.
It's a new unit I had put on my pc, it seems a bit slower than
the previous unit.

Well checking speed of your connection varies from modems and computers (consult your manual). However no matter what kind of dial up you have You will never have 56K. FCC regulations prevent you from getting better than 53K regardless of what the modem says. Still 3 K won' make a difference. Make sure your modem isn't old (older ones usually are slower).

check your connection to the network. sometimes your service provider is the problem. since you are using dial-up, expect to have slow connection. check your modem settings too.
