I am trying to access my business PC with my Laptop using remote desktop connection. If am in in the building using the WIFI, it does error (doesn't recognize, connect anyway?) but lets me connect anyway. When I get home though, it won't connect (different error, won't connect). My PC at home won't connect either. Both PC's are running XP and the laptop is running Vista. I have used this program in teh past to connect to other computers and would like to try to work this out. Does anyone have any step by step solutions to get this running properly?

My guess is you don't have the external IP of your work system? Inside your business your using a private class C address I'd say and those don't work outside on the Internet.. NAT gets in there too, & you may need the office router to take requests for remote desktop and forward them to your work pc's IP address. There could be plenty of reason this don't work. need more nfo... there are so many factors that can be stopping you, it aint gonna be an easy fix with this little nfo.

You have to talk to your company's system administrator. They need to open the port on their firewall to allow you to connect.

When you're at work, you're behind their firewall, so no ports need to be opened and you can successfully connect. At home, you're outside their firewall, so it's not granting you access to your business PC.

You will need to use a VPN to tunnel in to your work network. Get with your systems admin and find out if you have this capability.
