How do I create a home folder for a new roaming user? Also do I create the home folder from the server or from the new workstation (XP pro) I'll be adding for the user. Do I have to map the network drive for the workstation as a part of this?

You need to create a share that the user can get to for their home folder and give it the appropriate NTFS and Share permissions (see link #1). Then you need to change the profile tab as appropriate on the users account in Active Directory Users and Computers (see link #2, Step 4).

Lastly, it's not required to map a drive to it. When the user logs on, it will download the files from the directory (after it's been populated after the first log off) and will update this directory when they log out. However, roaming profiles aren't perfect. Sometimes they won't download properly or will get corrupted. Make certain you turn off the caching option for offline file on that Folder or you will end up with corrupted files on the profile (see link #3).

That should get you started on it. Roaming profiles have other problems, but 97% of the time work pretty well. It's the 3% when they don't work that you hate them.

Yu will configure this in Active Directory on the properties box of their user account. You will see a profile tab when you open it up.

i exploit a Small corporation Server to try this very concern. in case you upload each and every of the consumers to the server then the advert will build a consumer "homestead" folder. that's what i'm assuming you like them to have get entry to to. Then whilst each and every consumer browse the community, they'd desire to work out the server (in community places) and then have the skill to click on the "consumers" folder. this could improve and coach each and every of the names. Now, to get that to resemble a tension, in Explorer, click up on the final "equipment" and then click on "Map a tension". Then browse to the consumer folder as till now and click on it. that would desire to map the folder as a tension. desire this permits!
