Computer Networking - August 2006

i'm having problems with my internet, on the laptop which has the internal network card, and i'm in my house, it says i'm connected, its sending packets but not recieving any, and the signal strength is good and its connected at 54mbps.. As well it says network cable unplugged'.... How can i make my connection work, i want to recieve packets so i can surf the net. I am currently using my desktop PC to ask for help

This is driving me mad people, please help, I have installed both Lan cards and drivers etc, it just will not recognise the cable, I've tried both straight and crossed cables (2 of each) and ran the network setup disc countless times.(both pc's running xp) and device mgrs both say they are working ok,
Any Ideas please ?

I just got a new laptop, and Im trying 2 transfer over a lot of my files from my PC. I connected both my desktop and laptop to the router and made sure they had the same workgroup, but they will not detect one another. What is wrong ? (the OS is Windows XP)

Can you set up a basic home network between a Windows XP Home Edition and a Windows Mellenium using an Internet Router (supplied by Verizon DSL). I mean, both computers DO share an Internet connection, but I'm having trouble putting them on the same netowork (the XP computer is used as the main computer).

Also, is networking secure and safe, or is there a chance that outsiders can come and view the Shared Files or whatnot?

We have 3 computers two have wireless cards and one doesn't everythime the wired one is on no others can get on we have a linksys wireless-g 2.4Ghz router as for the computers the wired one is a gateway 830Gm one of the wireless ones is a toshiba laptop and the last one is a windows 98 computer witha minksys card.....

HOW CAN I STOP THIS JERK. HE NOW ABLE TO Surf the internet freely without paying or having any newtork service provider. But i'm prettysure it's from my network he got the internet connection from. We live in the same Apartment. He told me it was GOD who provided the network. How can i verify or stop him from using my network. He's been hiding his laptop every since i found out 4 days ago. My friend from the other side of the world dissapear, I send messege and email to her but have no reply, I dont know her home address and phone number or anyone from her friends or family, only thing I can know about her is her email address. Is there any way to trace her email address? I read that the modem was not really made for hosting games, but there is a work around to it. I don't know how true this is but i would like someone who is familiar with the modem to tell me how to set it up for hosting games. I have already tried port fowarding, NAT Only and configuring my firewall (Windows). Please, help me!!!!

And i want to install IPX/SPX protocol but it tells me ( Windows explorer had a problem )explorer.exe

Then the Windows freeze...
