well I dont really know why you need this protocol as the majority of the network aplications out there noewdays either exclusivly use or have an option to use TCP/IP insted of IPX/SPX even the newer versons of Novell Netware can run with out IPX/SPX

still that problem does mean part of windows is corrupted and the whole thing needs to be reinstalled. to fix that problem.

This is true. I've seen many XP boxes get a messed up explorer.exe file. I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but I'm guessing it is. The only way I've found to correct the problem is to reload. I do know of a work around that may allow you to install the protocol you would like; but I'm not truly sure if it will work or not as I have not tried it. Contact me if you would like to know the work around, but know that it is only a work around - not a solution.

You certainly won't need NetWare server up and running somewhere in the network for this;

But this is indication of a complete failure of Windows in the computer installed, may need a fresh reinstall.
