My computer is loaded with different pop ups and viruses. Please help me in cleaning it and protecting it!

I need to get new anti-virus software for my laptop. I'm running XP Home with a 20G hard drive. I also have an external hard drive so I don't keep excess pictures and files on the laptop. I was recommended AVG by a friend of a friend, but some of the reviews I've read have said it's not very user friendly. I've always used Norton but have read that it really slows the computer down. I also saw that Bit Defender has good reviews, but I'm just not sure if it offers as much protection as Norton Internet Security. If I go with Norton, which I might because that's what I'm familiar with, then it would be Internet Security, not just the Anti-Virus program. Another thing I'm trying to keep in mind is price, of course. Norton only offers one year whereas some of the others come with 2 year subscriptions. Thanks!

it`s an emachine puter and sometimes it`ll go for a few hours b4 restarting then other times it will do it real quick like twice in 5-10 minutes...... very frustrating

Hi,
I've recently been given a PC which has been completely wiped and when I try to boot it says Operating System not found. I put in my Windows XP disc (Authentic) and it doesnt give me the option to boot from disc, just says Operating System not found. What can I do to install windows??

I'd like to be able to run multiple virtual machines without first having to load a base OS that eats up my machine's resources. Is my best option to just install it on top of a very basic Linux kernel or can I configure it to be it's own OS. Or is there some other product I should be looking at.

i have an hp a1330n desktop. with windows xp and i used to b able to use the controls on the keyboard to control the windows media player. now when i press the button nothing happens. the sound control still works which is the weird part. also when i troubleshoot the hardware it shows no problems.

I need to learn how to protect my IP on the internet. I know people can trace you by just knowing your IP and that makes me uncomfortable. What is the best way to be safe (or "hide") in the internet? And is there also a way to change your IP address to fake ones hiding your real one?

(I have my own laptop and use wireless from my home wireless router thats connected to another router).

I installed win xp pro. everytime I start the computer I have to click the administrator button to get to the desktop. I never created an admin account during install and all I want windows to do is boot straight to the desktop, without having to click any accounts. how do I fix/change this?

Ok i'll be very impressed if anyone can help me with this...

We have a network with one server and a few computers, the server runs windows 98, all desktops run windows XP.

We run a database on each desktop, which is located on a partion on the main hard disk on the server. The partition is listed as D: on the server, and T: on all of the desktops.

We have just set up a new computer (again running XP) on the network, but can't see the partition on the network that holds the database.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Help would be greatly appreciated!?

hello all, i currently have a 1gb ddr2 pc5300 ram in my computer, and today i bought a 2gb kit of ddr2 pc5400 ram from newegg, will it work in my motherboard, is there a big difference between pc5300 ram and pc5400 ram???

When I turn on my pc , I saw these things : This copy of windows didnt pass genuine windows validation and you havent yet resolved the problem . this copy of windows is no longer eligible to receive the full range of upgrades and product support available from microsoft . to protect ur copy of windows click resolve now-resolve later
After then , I clicked on resolve now , nothing happened , the screen was still blue all the time , i kept waiting and waiting then I reseted my pc and made another choice later . everything would be ok , I could use my pc as usual . i dont know if I will get it next time then what should i do ? is it dangerous ? my pc has no antivirus software so im scared to connect internet , once time i tried with karpersky 6.0 but the ram is 64 mb and didnt seem fit for this as it required 128mb .
Add to this , in the right hand of screen i saw these thing :
