This is normal. When you are plugged into a power outlet, the laptop turns up the brightness a bit. When you unplug it, it lowers the brightness to conserve the battery. The brightness is probably adjustable.

When your computer is charging the voltage of the power source is actually a little bit higher than what the battery makes. This is how you able to charge the battery. The differences in voltages make differences in the monitor's brightness

Dell computers have power management. I think It's calles dell agent or something. There you can configure whether the screen dims or not.

But It's normal behaviour.

Sounds normal.
I think when you unplug, it is going into power saving mode.
By reconfguring power management you could change it.
Better you check with Dell customer care before fiddling around with power management.

Does the screen just dim, or totally shut off?
If it just dims, that's probably to save power. If it shuts off, then you should probably get it fixed - there should be a warranty on it.

I am not suer if it really is power management. Do mail the manufactuere and get the doubt cleared. I don't think they would do it for power managemnet, what is the point if you cannot satify a customer's interest without any technical complexity!!

if it dims, it's normal. It is part of the energy saving feature, which can be adjusted in the computer settings area.

This is normal but if you would like to increase the brightness press the blue fn key (near bottom left) and then press the increase brightness key which is normally the up arrow.
