Maintenance & Repairs - December 2007

I have a new 207. It had a fault with the seatbelt/airbag system repaired earlier today. When I was driving home my footwell area became very hot. I asked my passenger did they have the same problem but they didn't. By the time I got petrol (40 mins drive) my feet were on fire. It felt like I had my feet in a over on the highest gas mark possible. I haven't had this before so I turned off the temp which was set to heating footwell & side windows. It seemed to sort it out. Does anyone know what causes the drivers footwell to become very very hot? I noticed that I could feel the heat more when pressing the clutch down.Thank you.

I have a 1984 GMC serria 1500 rebuilt a 350 and threw it down in it. now it over heats really fast. what could make it do this ? plus i notice the oil looks milky and white creamy looking stuf, , what would be any reasons for this ?

I have a 1999 Volkswagen golf and when i try shitfing into 2nd or 4th gear at times it slips out, especially in 2nd gear. When I try shifting gears I have to basically force it into the gears. It also grinds a lot when I try shifting into second gear. My actual clucth cable still feels pretty tight, but its annoying whenI am trying to get on the highway. A little help please!!

I got into a fender bender with a 2007 mini cooper thats on a lease, it was the guys car. The mini cooper had two scratches on it, and no marks on mine. The guy is telling me to pay 905$$$ because he has to replace the WHOLE bumper, and labor etc..but thats ridiculous! isnt there some way around this?? i will love anyone who helps me with this dilemma.

I've been having some problem w/ the electrical system on my 1990 ford ranger. Specifically the battery not charging. So I changed the alternater right away but problem has persisted.

Now I'm having trouble get the problem an diagnosed and Im wondering were I should go from here. It's an old truck so I don't want to put a lot of money into it. I don't want to hand it into a mechanic and not have clue of whats going on either, my finances are very limited.

Any advice on what should do, or how I can diagnose the problem myself.

I have a '74 Chevy Vega that is the heat!!! It has bucket seats, and a hatch back. The 8 track is not working, but if I save up enough, I may buy a good cassette player to replace it. What do you ladies think of my ride? Would yo not be proud to cruise down the street in it??

I went to get my car checked out cause the check engine light was on and being a girl, they always seem to take advatage and find 100 things wrong with my car. The told me that something like the evap cylynoid is cracked or leaking and it needs to be replaced cause its near the gas tank... and that one of my O2 sensors needs to be replaced too... among all sorts of other crap for $932 they said needs to be fixed I told them to go ahead and fix the serpentine belt cause I knew that was cracked from way before... Everytime I take it somewhere, they say what the last place said was wrong and I dont know what to belive. So are those things really neccessary or can I wait...
And what is an EVAP system anyways?

My daughter bought a ford focus from southern Ontario and we live in Northern Ontario. I told her to bring it in to get it tested and topped up before the weather got too cold. But instead she got her boyfriend to just pour some pre mixed stuff into the existing antifreeze. I think it should have been done properly. Any comments?

Hello i have 03 Mitsubishi Montero and my engine light is ON and i bring it to autozone and they said its the oxygen sensor bank 2 sensor 1.Pls tell me where i can locate this coz i have 4 sensors there 2 in front and 2 at rear, which is one is bank 2 sensor 1 located is it on FRONT or REAR?PLs thanks.

I have a 2002 VW Jetta 1.8 T. I drove last night to the store...everything was fine! This mornig I try to start my car to go to work, it was making the "starting noise" but wouldn't start to save my life! It wasn't the battery. That's fairly new. My lights and radio came on just fine! What could it be!? My wife drove the car to work with no problem today, she goes to start it back up and leave and it has no power steering. I checked the fluid and it was empty so I filled it up and it just leaks right out on the passenger side. It looks like it is leaking from above and coating the suspension parts on the passenger side and then dripping to the ground. does not appear to be coming from the suspension. Any ideas?

my tires were shaking everytime i drove on the highway over 60mph. and everytime i made long turns left or right. like when i'm entering or exiting the highway. My right front tire got a flat but the mechanic said he is not putting that tire back on my car so i bought a new one and i notice that it did not shake anymore on the right side. So i'm thinking i should change all the tires. but now the left side is shaking period not matter if i turn or not and if i go faster than 50 mph. the whole car is shaking and its sounds and rides like the tire is flat. But i checked all the tires and put air in it. and it is still shaking. i know for sure i need new tires because I can barely stop without sliding but what is the shaking, do i need the tires rotated or something?

My son went to get his 98 Ford Escort SE inspected today. The mechanic told him that it won't pass emissions because of three hoses being partially clogged. Is this a job that we can do ourselves?? (The mechanic didn't even do the regular inspection.....said it was useless till he gets this taken care of first.)

I have two choices.

A.) I can either buy some really nice (high quality) yokohama tires. A set wil cost $200from Discount Tire.com.80k warranty tire.They will deliiver to my door. FREE SHIPPING. I can have a certified mechanic mount and balance them for extra $50 bucks. Total price will be $250 plus tax.

B.) Or I can buy the Primewell(low quality) cheapo tires from Firestone for $200 plus mounting and balancing. 40,000k warranty tire.Total cost $250.
If I bought those same yokohama tires from Firestone, Tire kingdom, or any store..they would cost me $400! This is because when you buy online you get tires for wholesale. I plan on driving my car for another 100k.


The problem is this: If the tire if faulty or breaks down...i can at least drive to the store and havethem replace or fix the tire.
If I buy tires online..if tire is faulty or anything wrong with tire I have to ship the tire back to the online site.

Whats the better deal?
