I went to get my car checked out cause the check engine light was on and being a girl, they always seem to take advatage and find 100 things wrong with my car. The told me that something like the evap cylynoid is cracked or leaking and it needs to be replaced cause its near the gas tank... and that one of my O2 sensors needs to be replaced too... among all sorts of other crap for $932 they said needs to be fixed I told them to go ahead and fix the serpentine belt cause I knew that was cracked from way before... Everytime I take it somewhere, they say what the last place said was wrong and I dont know what to belive. So are those things really neccessary or can I wait...
And what is an EVAP system anyways?
For reference I have a 2001 toyota corolla S
Thanks

The evap system detects fuel vapors that escape from the system. It is designed to keep fuel emissions from entering the atmosphere. These emissions are destroying our enviroment. The solenoid is switch that senses this.

They find things wrong with your car because you don't spend money on maintenance. Most mechanics I've worked with give girls a deal. Fix the vehicle, if an 02 sensor is bad the check engine light should have been on and a code stored in the ECU.
A bad 02 sensor can make the car run lean and damage the motor. An evap solenoid is cheap compared to other repairs and fixing it and reseting the warning light will be best. That way you will know if another problem occurs because the light will come back on. If you leave it lit you will not be alerted because you are used to seeing the light all the time.

the evap solenoid is there to regulate and release the emission gases. I also own an 01 corolla and have a check engine light on. Mine is on for a bad oxygen sensor as well. They may make your car run a little funny and make them not as good on gas but i dont plan on changing mine until emissions testing comes back around next year. Corolla's are known for having bad oxygen sensors. If it makes you feel better have them replace the sensor and see if that corrects your problem.

May not need to run the vehicle, but you need to pass your state's air pollution tests. If O2 sensor is bad should have an affect on gas mileage. Have you noticed a change? The EVAP canister accumulates gas fumes and the solenoid opens to suck the trapped fumes back into the engine so they can be burned in the combustion process. May need to take to an AAA rated repair shop unless yours is already. they guarantee their work and have to meet certain customer satisfaction requirements.
