Maintenance & Repairs - December 2007

I have a 94 honda accord, 4 cylinder with 220kms. Around a year ago it was giving me around 450 - 500 kms per tank and now it's giving me only 300 - 350kms.
So, i want to know, what are all the possible reasons, that my car is burning more fuel and how can i fix the problem. Between, I have also tried gas treatment bottles but no help.

I was tinting my window in my garage on my own for a good two hours with the door open. Once I went to start the car, it made a loud CLICK sound and wouldnt start. It almost sounded like a machine gun. I tried jump starting, but that did not work. The lights and headlights turn on along with the accessories. What can this be?

The radiator maintains a proper level whether or not I fill the reservoir for all four seasons.

My oil light flashed the day after I hit the pothole, my nephew looked under the car and said it was not my oil pan. He said he believed it was a seal and that the engine had to be remove to fix the problem. The problem is the part is like 10 to 12 dollars but its the labor. I have been driving the car but now it is parked because it cost so much to keep putting oil in the car, and I don't want to do anymore damage. Could you please help me! Also, could you tell me about how much it might cost.

I just installed my new catalytic converter and theres a lot of smokes coming out. smell like fuel! is this normal and its also showing me a engine light fault. Is this also normal. I was reading some information about C/Con. and says it will go away afterward. Is this true. Thank you guys for your info. this is a great website.

The other morning it was pretty cold out and I had maybe an 1/8th of a tank of gas in my 2004 Altima (yes, I'm not so smart...but I was going to get gas that morning!). I went to start the car, it rotated but wouldn't turn over. That happened a couple of times and then finally, out of frustration, I put the gas pedal all the way down, turned the key and it started. I ran a bunch of errands all day long and the car has been fine ever since. Could it have been the fact that I had pretty much no gas in my car and the temp outside was cold or do you think there are other things going on? The car only has 23,000 miles on it.

ive heard its not a good idea to change the trans mission fluid on a high mileage engine? or did they mean trans flush is bad? my trans fluid in there now is full but is dirty so i dunno what should i do? its a 1994 inifiniti j30t

Hi. I am without a doubt that I will have to go to my mechanic. I just want some advice so I walk in the door prepared. My brake light came on and the brakes are pushing all the way to the floor. When I put new fluid in the resevoir (I checked and it was needed) I pumped the brakes a few times in the driveway, backed the car up, and could clearly see where the fluid had leaked straight onto the ground. What's wrong with my brakes and is this going to cost me an arm and a leg right before Christmas? I have access to a garage bay. Any DYI advice? I have experience changing my pads, so I'm not completely mechanically incompetent.

i have a 1994 inifiniti j30t with 189,000 miles...so u think it is the fuel injectors that are bad? cause i tried many fuel injector cleaners and still the same thing even been putting nothin but premium gas in it as it requires also changed the spark plugs pcv valve and fuel filter still the same thing and the check engine light is on? cause when the car is warmed up it shakes alot and then when i put it in drive the idle drops and it shakes and feels like its gonna die out? but when its warmed up and in park it doesnt idle low it stays normal but shakes...but when i put it in drive thats when it shakes and idles real low and at stops? when it goes low it will go slowly up a bit then drop up and down its really pissin me off i just wanna get it fixed cause i love that car alot and is all i have and i dont want it breakin down on me...one mechanic said its the fuel injector that one was bad and another said theres a misfire somewhere...

According to many owners and their mechanics the BMW 7 Series sucks *ss! So why not just drop in a 383? Electric & computer could be yanked and rewired...Too much hassle for a car with 100K pricetag? Better than leaving it in the garage to rot? Nice looking car some with a V-12! That keeps breaking down! Amazed at all the complaints online but no response from BMW...Guess if you got 100+K to spend on a motor vehicle you've got lots more to get another?! But is the engine swap possible? Thanks for your input!

i have a 1994 infiniti j30t and the mechanic said that my cars misfiring a lil bit? another mechanic said one of my injectors are gone is this why my engine shakes alot when the engine is warm? and when i put it in drive it shakes and idles low like it wants to turn off?

I looked the fuse up in the manual and pulled the number 3 20 amper in the power block. But even though it was only labelled to control the rear wiper, yanking it has also wiped out my gas and temp gauges along with my speedometer. These are things I can obviously see and do not really bother me but Im worried that the fuse might run a fan or something that can, in turn, screw the mechanics of the van up. Any ideas? Or has anyone had this problem?

Hi all. I have a 1991 tempo that was staring just fine. One day (the other day) i went to start it and it does nothing. The little dummy lights come on but when i turn key nothing. No click. No rev. no sound nothing. Checked battery connection and lights and all work. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Oh ever since i got the car the check engine light was on...and still is. DOnt know why and dont know if that has anything to do with not starting or not. Also, car was overheating and i was waiting to fix this problem til it was warmer out. Not a head gasket...dont think cause i did the milky oil check thing...and it looked ok.

My check engine light came on about two months ago and I haven't had the time or money to get it into a shop to fix it. I have, however, done a lot of research online and figured out the light could be caused by at least one of two things: the catalytic converter or the oxygen sensor. I will take it to Auto Zone within the week to have a reading done on it (not the psychic kind) so I will be able to find out what is wrong with it officially. But in the meantime I thought I'd pose the question as to how MUCH it could end up costing me. I have heard that it could be as much as $1000 or as little as $100-500 to buy the part and have it installed. Can anyone (preferrably a mechanic) tell me around how much I am looking at spending? Thanks!

Its a ***** to start... i have to hold the key sometimes and it sounds like its about to stall out or sometimes i have to pump the gas pedal for it to start i was surprised i just had it start perfect when i was going to a store then i came back and it sounded like it wasn't even gonna start... i have no idea what is wrong with it please help.... its a 91 325i

Today I hit two curbs at approximately 30-40 kmph, because my driving skills had a brain fart. The car drives like it did before, but the guy at the repair shop said the wheel wasn't completely straight. I knew it needed an alignment which is why I brought it in (turns to the right). But they said that they needed to fix something else.

(On a side note, I also went in because I needed to put a new muffler on anyways. And the bills said like 1000$, so I was like screw that and drove away. The bill seems to be for replacing most of the exhaust system, which though maybe ideal, doesn't seem required / I can't afford it anyways).

I guess my question is that if it drives like it did before, other than the misaligned tires, is it safe to drive in general? Would I notice something big / obvious if there was something big / obviously wrong with the car?

BTW: the car is an 1986 Volvo 240, which is known to be pretty sturdy.

when i try to turn the car off it stops at ACC and won't go to off the key comes out and the engine goes off but the radio and mileage lights stay on. anyone know whats wrong and how much its going to cost (yes theres a security code for the key i was told I'll have to take it to a dealer)

My husband and I are looking to buy a 1994 honda accord from a friend. She says that there is an oil leak from the rear main seal. How serious is this? Does it need to be fixed right away or can we get the car and wait until the end of January to fix it, and just watch the oil level in the meantime? And about how much does that repair cost? I've heard about 300 dollars because of labor.

yea 1991 eclipes i got used a used car lot. When i got the car I never asked if they had a key for the locked lug nuts. well recently i hit a curb and i broke 3 of them off and the other 2 are still stuck on And they are right next to each other so i really cant drive my car till i get them off. Is ther any way i can get them off with out a key?
