First of all, to call the pedal on a fuel injected car a "gas" pedal is a misnomer. That pedal is really an "air" pedal. When you pump the pedal, all you are doing is getting your ankle to exercise itself. It does nothing more than to allow more or less air to enter the engine, the fuel metering system just keeps up. You probably have a senso or two that are acting up by this time, which is no big deal. You have a PCV system that needs to be cleaned (with no leaks). Also you have an idle control valve, which if it is dirty, cannot regulate the idle speed and therefore the amount of fuel entering your engine. Remove and clean this valve and check for any air leaks around the valve and where your FI injectors are mounted. Spray these areas with Gum-out while the engine is running and if your RPM's drop, then you have a leak to tend to. Also, try to keep your engine compartment show room clean by shampooing it at a do-it-yourself car wash. Dirt, even on the outside of a sensor, can be a real enemy. Also, clean out your fuelmetering box and make sure ther no leaks in the hose connecting the box to the intake manifold!!! Good Luck!!

It appears like the idle velocity is in basic terms too low. in all probability a spark plug misfiring. Open the hood and seem for a vacuum leak. verify the oil dipstick factor; verify the coolant factor, and so on. How long considering which you have had a valve adjustment? you %. a valve adjustment each and every 365 days or each and every sixteen,000 miles, whichever comes first. Does your 318is have a incredible-unfold distributor with aspects and condensor? have you ever checked the ignition timing with a strobe easy? Are you using a real type form of gasoline? verify each and every of those products or get an entire music up. each and every guy or woman or 2 of those products will make the idle velocity too low. RSVP.

The old platforms have had a lot of problems. Your car is old, and will be increasingly harder to maintain now.
Check the fuel and water pump. Check fuel lines to see if anything is clogged or leaking.
Most importantly, for a proper functioning car, make sure to have it completely inspected and serviced by an authorized BMW Maintainence facility.

If you have to hold your key to make your car running. Looks like the ignition switch. Replace it see what happens.
