The other morning it was pretty cold out and I had maybe an 1/8th of a tank of gas in my 2004 Altima (yes, I'm not so smart...but I was going to get gas that morning!). I went to start the car, it rotated but wouldn't turn over. That happened a couple of times and then finally, out of frustration, I put the gas pedal all the way down, turned the key and it started. I ran a bunch of errands all day long and the car has been fine ever since. Could it have been the fact that I had pretty much no gas in my car and the temp outside was cold or do you think there are other things going on? The car only has 23,000 miles on it.

You mean the car turned over but wouldn't start? If you don't have the problem again I wouldn't worry about it, a check engine light and computer codes will set if there is a problem other than fuel related. Some times if you turn the car off to fast with out letting it idle first you can load the spark plugs up or "flood" them.Holding the pedal down gave the motor more air which helped it start.

nope, It was likely that it got a bit too much fuel and was a little flooded, that doesn't happen very often and may not again. No matter how much or little fuel you have in your car it will not affect starting unless it is empty. It is a bad idea during cold weather to let your tank go low because it is much more likely to get moisture in the fuel allowing it to freeze. I always suggest to my customers to use isopropyl alcohol every other tank full during the winter months.

P.S. it turns over but does not start.

Just keep gas in the car. The weather also may have had some effect. But with fuel prices going up....and weather BAD...you do not want to get stranded in the cold.
KEEP you car filled up :)

You didn't explain what happened to it. Is it still running, or is is down for the count. If it doesn't wok, you might have ruined the gas pump.
