im stuck in new york right now, and need to get to ohio. my brakes make a horrible grinding sound when i brake, but its only been doing it about 5 days. i bought brake pads for 20 bucks, but it would take 60 to change them, which i just cant afford. i need all of my money for gas. i need to get down to kentucky which is 700 miles away. i wont be making to much stops though, not anymore than i would in town. would i be okay if i just went ahead and left? i have people that can do it for free once i get there.

My fan makes a really lound rattling, grating noise when it spins. Someone suggested that i tmay need cleaning. Also suggested that it's rubbing up against another part of my car. Do these suggestions sound reasonable? What would u think is wrong and that i should do?

located. I seaped it up as well as I could. Now my gear shift locks and is a real pain to try and get it into drive, reverese etc.. I have to keep messing with it while in park to get it to go into drive. So lately I have been keeping it in neutral to start it then to put it into gear. Could this be from the soda or something else? I know when I messed with the gears today it went into all gears with no problem. But then when I drove home parked it went to go start it an hr. later it's stuck again. PLEASE HELP...

I drive a 1998 Nissan Frontier pick-up truck. This morning the power steering belt broke on my way into work. My question is, besides the fact that its difficult to turn the steering wheel if my vehicle is moving slowly, will I risk more serious damage if I drive it about 1.5 miles to my local auto parts store?

It seems to be worse in the morning than in the evening and is especially noticeable between 3rd and 4th gear. It is not constant and is hard to predict when the smell will occur.

I have a 2002 GMC Envoy and I took it to the dealer because in the mornings it idles very rough and the traction control comes on and causes the reduce engine power light to come on, which of course won't allow my truck to accelerate out of first gear.

To "fix" this, we have to turn the truck off and on about 3 or 4 times until the traction control light no longer comes on.

The truck then drives normal the rest of the day.

The dealer says the only thing they could find is that the fan clutch is begin to act faulty (lower voltage output than normal) and that because it this, it is affecting the traction control and throttle position senson (which they say checks out fine on it's own).

Could a fan clutch going bad cause these types of problems?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated since this is a very frustrating thing.

I need to use a neighborhood mechanic, who wants to be paid in cash. Hubby and I discussed paying via check as proof of payment.

This is my first encounter with this mechanic; when I told him I wanted to pay by check he said if I want to do business like that, then I should get another mechanic.
Not to mention, I was tee'd off at his response, but is there anyway I can draw up any document that he could sign - I guess a "promise of services rendered" so he will stand behind his work? Or should I just get another mechanic?

i have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 truck, 5.2. i want to hollow out my converter for personal reasons. i know on some trucks you can unbolt it and rebolt it back on but on mine its one continuous piece. it doesnt unbolt, its one piece connected from the headers and to the muffler. i know i can cut it off and do what i need to do but how do i reinstall it? do i have to buy some pipe extensions and have it re welded or what? i want it to look stock and not have alot of modifications to it that will make it stand out when looking at it.

I own a chrysler new yorker 1988 and it sags in the back of my car but the small airbags in the back that originally came with it have no holes rips or tears the hoses seem fine to give it air when i turn my car on the generator to pump them up makes a noise to make the back end go up then its a little better but i was looking under there and after about 15 seconds after it pumps air to them it makes like a click noise then it sags back down again the noise comes from the air compressor thing but when i first got the car it never did this what could be wrong so theres no leaks or holes so what?

I looked at the colleges around my area. But the closest I found was an auto body class. They only work on cars 10 years and newer. I want to work on antique cars. I want to restore them. Do you have any ideals how I can find classes.

My car fuel pump went bad and needs replacing. I took it to Firestone and they're saying it's gonna cost me $600 to fix it When they told me this I nearly dropped dead. Now I can't even get to work because of this. I tired getting a loan but because of not having much credit history I got turned down by everyone I applied to. I need help bad. All my life nothing but bad things have happened to me and I don't know why. Sometimes I think life just isn't worth living. This isn't just about my car but everything else in my miserable life. I guess What I need to know is if what Firestone is charging me is reasonable and how do I get the money to fix my car. Hopefully, I'll still be around to read the comments.
