Once the shop starts working on it, it should take less than a day to get all the physical stuff replaced.

The DMV is another story. Once you get the certification, the DMV make take a few weeks to get you the new plates and stickers. However, with the certification you should be able to take the information in to the DMV to get some temporary tags to allow you to use the vehicle immediately.

with regards to the parts, it depends on the age of the car make, model, etc, and the availability of certain parts required. If it is a foreign make, then this could account for the wait for parts as the shop may have to get them from abroad. you may have to "keep on top of them", to see their progress, and explanations, for the wait. good luck.

I don't think that is unreasonable especially if it's a small shop. They possibly don't have the parts on hand and would need to order them in.
