located. I seaped it up as well as I could. Now my gear shift locks and is a real pain to try and get it into drive, reverese etc.. I have to keep messing with it while in park to get it to go into drive. So lately I have been keeping it in neutral to start it then to put it into gear. Could this be from the soda or something else? I know when I messed with the gears today it went into all gears with no problem. But then when I drove home parked it went to go start it an hr. later it's stuck again. PLEASE HELP...

use rubbing alcohol. poor a little bit at a time into your shifter and work the shifter back and forth, this will eat away the sticky mess left by the soda, and the alcohol evaporates so fast there will be nothing left behind.

that is the sugar etc. in the soda condensing down to a thick sticky mess use a cleaning agent (I like windex) to dissolve it and wash it out of workings its probably just in the plastic plate that surrounds the shift lever and keeps there from being an open gap thru the console. just squirt in a little at a time and move shifter thru full range of movement do this until it moves freely then do it some more till you are sure you have gotten rid of all the soda or it will just get sticky again. Don't use any oil based solvents as this could damage the plastic parts.

I hit the brakes hard once and my lemonade spilled all over the gear shifter in my Maxima. Messed up the shifting part. The transponder or something under there was fried. Turned out to be a simple repair. So, it might not be just the sticky mess that's causing problems, could be the fluid got into something and fried it.
