For a minute or so almost every day my Focus gives a cough and the speedo stops working. The engine continues to run as normal and then the speedo starts again. What causes this. I have a colleague who experiences the same thing with her Focus.

The car was taking a minute to start, but I drove it anyway. I stopped at a garage sale and it wouldn't start back up. The guy who was running the garage sale helped a little, he opened up the battery and it was super corroded. It looked like a half inch of crystals were growing all over the connections. He poured baking soda and water all over it, and it helped. He couldnt get the cables off the battery. (My husband says that he never touched it because it still worked, even though it looked bad) The cables are a little short, so I dont think I can cut them and put another battery in.
We jumped the car and it started, but about 10 seconds after we removed the cables the car died. We tried that twice.
The guy finally drove me and my baby home, now I have to figure out what to do.
I could try to replace the battery myself, but I dont know how to get the cables off.
Towing is really expensive.
It is a 2000 ford focus (yes- i know that is my problem!)
What do I do?

I read on a lot of reviews that people ended up paying crazy money all the time just to fix this and that. The reviews gave it 7/10 expert and 8.5/10 user. Is this still a safe buy or will I end up paying crazy amounts of money all the time just for repairs.

I need to replace the spring shackles and the 4 bolts on a ford ranger 96'. I bought the shackles and brackets, but still need the bolts. The dealership sells the bolts for 75.00 but can't I use other types of bolts that would work just as well and be cheaper? What types recommended? Any advice ? thanks

I checked both the blower motor, AND the blower motor Resistor, and both are ok.
what's next (yes, i know the switch is fine, too)
before it started to fail, it worked on only the high setting for a few weeks, sporatically, now nothing on ANY fan speed.

My brake light above the rear window works but the brake lights and the front and rear tail lights to not flash or light up when the brake is applied. Someone told me I had to change the turn single mechanism. Do I have to remove the steering wheel for that or can it be accessed by taking the top and bottom cover off around the steering column?

This is an older vehicle that I want to repaint with a very cheap paint job so Im not looking for perfection or even close to it-but I would like to try and pull out or fill in all of the pits from hail / storm damage.
Two ideas I had:

Sand the pits down and fill them with BONDO?

Drill hole in center of pit and try to pop them back out then BONDO the hole?

Any better ideas or suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

I had a head gasket replaced due to overheating this past week at a Toyota dealer.

The head gasket was on recall and they replaced it for free.

They also put on the engine new spark plugs and a new thermostat and a new gasket on the exhaust manifold as well.

I have driven it home now and there is an obvious electrical surge /shortage somewhere because it jolted down the road just now and stopped and when I opened the hood there was smoke coming from the cable going to the negative terminal.

They maybe didnt ground the wire back when they put everything back together????

I am a landscaper and needed to mow my customers lawns today and will be losing money by not being able to use my truck.

What will Toyota do about it????

Thanks for your answers!

Hi. I'm trying to replace a Citroen AX Speedo cable, but it goes along the back of the dashboard from the instument panel and presumably through the bulkhead somewhere. However, I can't find where it goes from behind the instrument panel, or even the end that goes into the gearbox. Can anyone help me locate it?

My 1999 VW Passat wagon, four cylinder, has a flashing "check engine" light. The engine shakes the entire car and fails to develop full power. I suspect this is some sort of timing or ignition problem. Any ideas?

I looked under the car and it seems like a small drop every few seconds from a small line with a clamp on it. The line which has a small leak is located near the driver's side mid way between the driver's side tires. I can't afford to repair this fuel leak yet (until I get my next check) but was wondering if it is ok and or safe for me to drive the car around?
