The engine ford used at the time of this s3 was a perkins There shouldn,t be a shortage of this motor as i believe peugot also used it The motors from diesel freight rover will go straight in as indeed the guy recommended maestro montego 2 litre perkins also will with mods Basically the land rover lends itself to just about anything,the largest meccano set on wheels I love em

If you can find an old Austin Maestro or Montego Diesel, the 2.0 Perkins diesel engine from these fits straight into the engine bay and onto the gearbox with minimum mods. The holes for the g/box are the same the only thing you will need is to make up the engine mounts.

Yep, the Diahatsu 2.8 turbo will fit, but you will need an adaptor plate for the gearbox, and you will need to modify the engine brackets. Not sure about any other types as these are the only ones that I have wired in older Landies and Rangies, have fun.

Gearbox manufacturers can grant new/re-condition ones, yet once you like a "low priced" used one, attempt automobile & commercial breakers on your section, alternativley, a mechanical engine/gearbox enginiers save, may well be waiting to re-build your latest one for possibly a third or 0.5 the fee of a manufacturers re-con? sorry, yet no longer many different thoughts. desire this helps at the same time with your decission of your favorite action. reliable success.

you could fit any motor you want.you need to make up an adapter plate.this is quite simple to do.it can be fabricated using simple every day tools .power drill.gas axe, welder.
