Here is the low down....

1993 = How much is worth to you Vs how much is the fair trade value.

And....

How much have you spent so far....

Equals........

Fix it or Chuck it.

I would say get another, newer used car for the same price of the repairs and some change.

Some dealers out there has the tow, pull, drag, push deal. That means does not matter of the condition, you can walk out with another car. I know, most likely your car is paid off, but sometimes the cost of maintenance is higher than you will pay for a car on monthly payments.

As an example, I went to the Chevy dealer with a rust bucket 86 Suburban (the tires worth more than the vehicle). I got $500 for it + $1500 loyalty discount for buying another Chevy. So I "sold it" for $2,000 and I paid $2,500 and beat the crap of 3 years in Minnesota for $500/Gas/Oil/Insurance. No bad deal! To fix the truck $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ The newer car is almost paid off now and 4 years of trouble free rides.

More info on when this occurs and conditions--warm, cold engine, while driving or stopped, etc...
If no check engine light is on, it would be either ignition or fuel related...test fuel pump pressure with a gauge while driving to see if there's a drop in pressure when this occurs...if so, it's fuel related---worn pump or bad wiring, clogged filter, bad regulator, etc...if not, it's probably ignition problem. Sounds like you need a better mechanic.

Keep trying, I refuse to believe that no mechanic can diagnose this problem, especially with all the electronic gizmos they have at their disposal. Have you brought it to a GM dealership service center?
