I have an x reg(2000) VW polo. The side lights work as normal, but I just can't turn on full headlights - I do however have no problems with full beam . The fact both went at exactly the same time indicates to me it's not bulbs. I'm pretty useless with motors and thought it may be a fuse, but have been told cos I do still have some lights this is not the case !! Any advice much appreciated.

My car (<70 k miles) stalled yesterday. When I popped the hood, I noticed significant corrosion around the positive terminal on the battery. I cleared a fair amount off and was able to drive it home, but it still kept trying to sputter out and the check engine light was on the entire time (I live in the midwest and it's VERY cold here now, don't know if that means anything). Could I expect a significant improvement if I were to clean the terminal thouroughly? Any other ideas, possible diagnoses?

The lights and everything in the truck are working fine. The engine isn't even turning or cranking when I turn the key with my foot on the clutch. I have a full tank of gas so I no that's not the issue. I just placed a small space heater under the pedals to start to warm them up. They were difficult to press down whe trying to start the truck. Any suggestions or McGuiver ways to get it heated as quickly as possible would be appreciated. The truck can't be moved into any sunlight. Help:(

I bought my first car last year. It is now overdue for a service (thank you for the answers to that question!) and I have looked through the pouch of information in the glove box to find a log book, but can't find one. The car was a nearly new demo model Clio, bought from a Renault garage. I have instructions and warranty information, but can't find a log book. I seem to remember from my mum's car that a log book is a small booklet with mileages and small boxes for the stamp from the servicing garage. Is it normal for a car to come without one? Can I get a replacement (where and will it be very expensive?) Also, will future buyers know that the book is a replacement, and will this detract from its value?

At what intervals should cars be serviced these days? Is it by time period, or mileage? Does it depend on the type of car? I have a 2005 Renault Clio which I bought in Feb 2006, and now has a mileage of 18 000 miles.

we have this car and we have replaced the thermastat and water pump and I still don't know whats wrong with our car. Its a 1996 and we can't get to the raditor but we checked the resvour and it still looked fine. It was overheated in 5 mins or less when we replaced the water pump it now can go 10-15 min. and I am puzzled by this and wonder what it could be without costing me a arm and leg.

The handling is getting bad on the high speed corners, and they are making a bad noise when you press down on them. I cant have them replaced for another 3 months. WIll this damage anything else on my car or cause a safety issue?

I bought a Nissan Altima 1999 and the battery of it was manufactured in Aug 2005. This winter during cold weather I could not start the car. I called the service and they came an boosted the battery and they said to me I need to run the car for at least 10-15 minutes and replace the battery even though it was not that old. Shortly I went and replaced the battery with a brand new one. I left the car parking for 3 consective days. When I tried to start it I could not and I think it is the battery again because the headlights are not operating when the are switched on and no sound when I press the horn. Now I am thinking of 2 scenarios, the first one is that the charging system is not fully functioning, the second scenario is that I am so unlucky that I replaced the older bad battery with a new bad battery too since it costed around $80 which is relatively cheap. How can I determine which one of the two scenarios is the real one?

I just had my fender painted, and I noticed that there was a slight shadow of white paint on the windshield. It is barely visible from outside, but visible from inside so it bothers me when I drive, is there a way to get it off without having to use razor blade? i don't want to even risk scratching my windshield.

I know that when you have a manual transmission you save gas. However, Is it true that when you go in a higher gear and barely gun the gas pedal, keeping it steady and smooth speed the whole time is good for the gas mileage, however it makes the engine work harder, so even though you save gas, your engine is working harder than it needs to. Is this true? Save gas(Higher gear at low speed, but Harder though on Engine?

I checked my oil and it's full, I just put a quart in, however, the oil light keeps coming on, sometimes it's blinking on and off sometimes. Periodically. I think this is just a fuse maybe not all the way in. I'm guessing. I don't really know. If it stays on all the time like this, is there any danger of this as long as I'm always checking my oil and it stays full?
