Have an 8 HP snapper snowblower. Put new gas in it each time its used. It will fire up and theres a spark but won't stay running. Any ideas why?

Its a briggs and stratton engine, takes reg. unleaded gas, and the choke isnt closed. On the gas line there is an on off switch and its on.

Sure, drop the bowl off the carb and clean it out, then shoot carb cleaner up through the center of the carb from the bottom through the nozzle. Sometimes the bolt that holds the carb on is also the main jet, if so, it has 3 holes, when shooting a stream of carb cleaner in from the top, there should be 2 streams that shoot out from the bottom. Just do it away from your face, or at least wear goggles if you haven't done this before. Would also be nice to know which engine this is. If its a Tecumseh Snow King and it surges after you put it back together, then just get a new carb. It will never be smooth otherwise, and costs about $80.

I have a Snapper snowblower too. It could be that if you leave the choke closed, it it is flooding the plug and it gets too much gas. If the choke is open, make sure the fuel switch (it looks like a thumb screw on the fuel line) is open. If that doesnt work, then it is running to rich. Make sure your using the right kind of as too. Does it have to be mixed?
