can a head gasket be re-used or does it have to be replaced everytime the head is taken off and checked? and also can a cars engine steam from just gunk alone or would there have to be an underlying cause.

I would like to have an idea of what is wrong before i take it to be repaired. I had it fixed in the summer and its still under warrenty so i have to take it back to the mechanic who fixed it. Only he tried to sell me two door hinges for my truck at 600 each and I only needed a bushing that cost me 20 installed. It was a sensor before but the abs light didnt come on. It does know though. Still a sensor, right? The more info i have the better prepared i'll be. Oh its on the same side as it was also. Thanks

On my car I have central locking/alarm on my keyring and outside my house sometimes it doesn't work, almost as if the signal is being blocked. Other people have commented on theirs not working when they visit my house too. If I go elsewhere it works fine. Can anyone tell me what this might be. i don't live near any pylons or anything.

Thank you

I will be getting it checked out by a mechanic, but I would like some opinions first.

My car battery light went on and my radio lights began to flicker. Had the battery replaced immediately. That day, the battery light stayed on and radio lights were still flickering a bit. I assumed then that this was probably a problem with my alternator. However, in the two days following, the battery light is off and my inside lights are steady.

Could it be, and this may be a dumb question, that my car had to get used to the new battery. It is a pretty old high-milegae vehicle (94 Grand Prix). Or is this not out of the ordinary and I should still plan on getting bad news from my mechanic?

Thanks for the help.

I have a 2000 Ford Focus? Check Engine light came on and I had the diagnostic done. It said it was a bad Throttle Position (TP) Switch. I replaced It and it blew-out in ten minutes. Also the battery light comes on sometimes and just replaced that last month so I know nothing is wrong with the battery. I'm thinking it may be something electrical that is causing the new switch to blow-out and also make the battery light come on. Any suggestions or recommendation would help. Thanks!

i only have this problem when its cold out or raining. i have a remote start so i try that first but the car does nothing. it acts like its going to start but it doesnt. i try it with the key and it does the same thing. it turns over just never gets close enough i guess. we just put a new battery in it two weeks ago so that cant be it. my boyfriend and i can't figure out whats wrong with it...
its a 96 so maybe cause its a lil older but still, ive been having this problem ever since i got it basically.
another question, whenever its raining out, when i try to turn my steering wheel locks up and i have to pull hard or yank on it to get it to turn. why is it doing this? do i just need power steering or what?

Hey, i know next to nothing about cars, just got my first, a 1995 N reg Ford Fiesta, 1.25 and done 57k miles. Apparently the timing belt needs changing. I've scouted around a few mechanics and a few have even said it wont have a timing belt? Others have mentioned timing chain, and alternator belt? Whats the difference? And should i get it in and changed quick before it fu**s the whole engine up? And most importantly, how much should i be expecting to pay? so i know i'm not getting ripped off...(in the UK). Big cheers for help!!!

In summary, the car goes into gear with the engine off, but not when it is running. Neither the clutch pedal or gear stick feel strange, but gears (or reverse) can't be engaged whilst driving. Does anyone know what this might be and the best way to resolve the problem. Thank you very much. I did post this thread earlier but can't find it again to check for replies, apologies for any duplication!

This is a 1987 GM pickup with a 350 tbi in it.I am talking about the coolant sending unit for the computer and not the guage.Would not buying a new one directly from GM and getting another one from a local parts shop cause any problems or side effects to my engine. Can the specs be different from an aftermarket one from the original factory one?Can the aftermarket one be a little off than the original telling the computer that the engine is a different temperature than it actually is causing a lean or rich condition in fuel. Thanks

It's like a mechanical clicking and happens only when I'm in drive and accelerating. The only thing I can equate it to would be the sound of the freshness seal on a snapple (or other glass beverage) cap after it has been opened (pip-pop) - only it's louder and more mechanical sounding. It happens at all speed levels 15-60mph and results in cut outs in my acceleration. I have a 1991 buick regal v3.8. Any help would be greatly appreciate.

Can needing a new head gasket fail your MOT on a car??

Yesterday I was driving my car and all of a sudden I couldn't accelerate. I pulled over and my car just died. I couldn't get it to start again. I tried to have it jumped but it still wouldn't start. Could it be the alternator? Because the other day My friend's car was dead and we tried to jump his car but I have a Malibu and we could'nt do it. Do you think we could have done something to my alternator? Thanks.

My Fiesta's got a lumpy idle - seems to surge up and down at tickover... Giving it a few revs will settle it down, but it seems to be getting worse eg sitting at lights after a high speed run it feels like it's about to stall. Any ideas what might be causing this? It's been properly maintained, and low mileage so I'm a bit mystified.
