I am thinking of buying a car and I am confused as to the kind of engine I should s, settle for, a diesel engine or a gasoline engine? Others say that a diesel engine is better than a gasoline engine. However, a diesel engine accordingly has a shorter lifespan.
If this is so, is there a standard lifespan for car engines? I need to know about this since I am also considering of buying a used car, hence I have to reckon with the number of mileage. I can't find anything on the internet about engine lifespan.

ALOT it smelt like burnt oil. and the check engine light was flashing. I checked the dipstick and theres too much oil so i'm going to drain some out. are there any other precautions i should take or problems i should worry about?

I took a road trip for thanksgiving and after several hours we stopped to eat. My car would not shift into reverse but it would shift into drive (automatic transmission ford escort 1997 130K miles). I opened the hood and saw transmission fluid on my battery etc that had been spewed out while I had been driving. I remembered that a few weeks earlier I had overfilled my transmission fluid and thought maybe some of the overfill was being thrown out.

Anyways, I was able to get out and drive the rest of my trip and the transmission was always slow to shift and change gears.

When I got to my destination, I let the car cool down and tried to test the transmission and it was able to shift into reverse again and work decently.

Is it possible that a transmission filter is plugged? What is going on? Could I burn up my transmission by driving it home? Or would you suspect a cooling system for the transmission is plugged? How do I get home after the thanksgiving break with my car?

I replaced the TP sensor, Idle air control, oxygen sensor, rebuilt the throttle body, and replaced the fuel relay. My 5.0Lv8 keeps stalling while driving and at stops. The code reader says primary and secondary fuel pump circuit failure, and low idle. These are the codes the code ready gave me after a check engine light came on... 44,13, 65, 41, 87, and 95. What should I do now? I forgot to mention I did replace the fuel filter the same time as the fuel pump relay and the idle air control valve. Also can someone explain a little on the TFI ignition and how it could effect the engine to stall.

Hi, I was changing my front callipers, brakes and rotors today. The guy at the AutoZone store gave me the wrong bottle and I put some power steering fuid in my brake system. I got some out already, but I am sure there is some left inside. Should I flush my brake system? Also, my brakes are a little softer than before? I'll try bleeding them tomorrow morning again. Please, help. Thank you.

I have a 2.0l eaton supercharged 4 cylinder in my car. Recently (generally speaking as soon as as it started to get cold) the engine has been running very loud with very loud acceleration through every gear. I have an open filter after market intake, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. The idle is loud (at 1k-1.25k; regularly around .7k) and the acceleration is ear drum shattering (set's off car alarms!). The internal engine temperature has stayed under 100 degrees, the intake temperatures are around 60 degrees (internal around 80 without running it hard). I'm not sure if it's exhaust related, could it just be from it running too cold internally?

I have a 2003 Pontiac Sunfire. Today, when I went to leave for work my car wouldn't start. The radio would play, but the lights kept flickering on and off and my car made this clicking sound, over and over again. When I went to turn my car on... nothing. Not a think, no screeching, no sort of sound at all. My gas gauge needle went up and down a few times also, when I would try to start my car.
This doesn't sound to me like a case of a dead battery but then again, I don't know much about cars. Help me please! Thank you all so very much!

It's a good car. Too bad the spedometer doesn't work, the brakes are weak, the rear left door flies open, the turn signal lever doesn't work, the power locks don't work, the front passenger window doesn't work, the power mirrors don't work, the seats are dirty and the headliner needs replaced. The horn doesn't work and the horn cover fell off the steering wheel leaving the large steering nut uncovered. Not to mention a missing radio antenna and peeling paint. But it's a really good car, it runs excellant, handles awesome and clings to the road.

I didn't mention the minor things. What should I fix first?

This is when the engine is running with no load and idling. Is this normal or should I govern it down to put out exactly 120 and 240? When I start connecting loads to it , it does drop on down to between 110 &120 depending on the load. It's practically brand new and I'm sure was set just right when I bought it, but like a dummy, I felt like it was idling too high and then started messing with the idle/governor until I thought it sounded about right. Only problem is, I didn't think to check the voltage output before I did that, so I don't know what it was putting out when it was (presumably) set correctly from the factory. This information is nowhere to be found in my owners manual. Does anybody know ? OK, the other day I hooked it up to my house for a test run.I turned on everything in my house except the central air cond. and clothes dryer. 4 computers &moniters,4 tv's,every light,4 cieling fans, fridge, furnace fan-and the voltage(in my house receptacles )was about 105. Is this normal?

I have a 1999 Dodge Neon---that is overheating. I can drive it for about 5-10 minutes, the temperature gauge gradually goes to hot. Already has antifreeze in it. Does have a slight radiator leak. Is it the water pump?? If so any idea how much it costs to replace?
