When it comes down to it, it's all preference. I agree that McGuire's is the greatest thing in the world but I've been using it for years too. It's good for clear coat and it does a good job as long as you put some elbow grease into it too. Mother's makes wonderful products and Advance Auto Parts house brand soap is good in a pinch. But when you break it down, it's all about what you use to spread those bubbles around. Make sure you aren't using something that's harsh and will leave faint scratches in the clear coat/paint. Over time they will show themselves and make you grit your teeth in anger over all the work you've put into keeping your dream car clean. Happy waxing!!

Dont use Dish soap! Dish soap is rough on the paint/clear coat and will strip any wax or protectant that you may have put on the car recently.. Most car wash soaps with a little elbow grease will do the job.. (Keep the wash cloth clean as well ;)

I forgot it's name. It comes in a green bottle with a red label - acutually that's the wax.

Don't worry about soap, it's not like you are trying to kill germs, just wash with water and dish liquid soap the important thing is the wax! ; )
