Even when it doesn't rain my car has water in the backseat on the floor. My car is a 2001 Dodge Neon. Has anyone experienced something like this. What would cause this to happen and how can I remedy this. What sort of damage can this cause in the long run.

sounds odd if it happens when there is no rain,it does sound like a window leak, if not corrected it will cause carpet damage and floor pan rust. I would recommend pulling up the rear carpet and check the floor drain plugs to be sure they are sealed,if they are not running through puddles will allow water to enter.Test spraying the windows with some help and try to find the source. If the front carpet is not wet I would not expect a heater core leak

Does it smell like anti freeze? Not having stated so, and you'd probably would have because of how pungent it is, I'll assume it is water from elsewhere. My Alero gets water on the back right foot well when it rains. It is poor design and I've taken to just letting it dry up. Eventually it will cause the floor metal to rust but the car is six years old with about 90k on it. I know that GM had a retro fit fix for door panel seals for mine but it is not worth the bother for me.

Interesting.... I have a 2000 Dodge Neon and have the same problem... it has just gotten progressively worse, and now I can see standing water on the floor of both my back seat floors! I wonder if this is a dodge thing?!

A few reasons why water could be in the car.

The air conditioning drain can become clogged and prevent water from the air conditioning from draining outside of the vehicle. Rubber plugs and seals can fail under the body that allows water to seep in, and seals around windows can gradually fail.

All could lead to water in the car.

what happened is: you switched from heat to air conditioned too quick. The tube that was hot, became cold in an instant, and it cracked in a place that is inside your car, ON THE FLOOR, behind radio, cigarette lighter, ash tray and so on. The water from the air conditioned that was supposed to drain outside (under the car), is now draining inside your car, because of crack on the pipe.
You need to replace this tube. If was plastic, replace if with metal one.
Before going to mechanic , check if somebody forgot to pass the tube through the hole on the car floor, in order for the water that the A/C generates, to drip on the pavement outside.
Obs: you probably have more water inside your trunk, under your spare tire. check that.
