I drive a Vauxhall Astra LS - 1.4L, 1997 model. It usually drives well, but every once in a while, the engine cuts out when I'm driving, and it won't start up again - the starter motor turns over OK but I can't get ignition. I usually have to wait 10 minutes or so before I can get it going again.
It can go for weeks and not do this, then it might do it twice a day for a week or so. It tends to happen when I'm driving at low speed - slowing down for junctions, driving in 30mph zones or moving off. Occasionally it won't start at all, and I can't even get off my driveway.
I've taken it to 3 garages, who all said they've fixed the problem, but it still happens. The AA are stumped. Help!

the remote control's battery is new, but i think that the remote control does not send signal to the car to open or close the doors' locking system, or there is a problem with the key programming

After taking the AC or serpentine belt off to inspect, why is it recommended that you put the belts in the same direction as before? I took the AC belt off on my car to inspect and it was in very good condition so I put it back on but I didn't know which way it was on before so I just put it on. Will it break if I put it on the other way? Thanks.

Driving from CA to WI , after about 11 hours of non stop, about half way my Car, '03 Tiburon started to lose power and wound'nt go faster than 65 even if I floored it. Could it be the spark plugs going bad while I'm driving? It hasn't died on me yet but I am worried that it will when I am in the middle of no where.

I have a Saturn SL2 2000 with 115K miles. If I leave the car sitting for a while, it takes a long time to start when I turn the ignition key (about 8-10 seconds). Once the car is running, it runs great. Once its running, if I turn it off, it starts right back up normally, unless I let it sit for a while (at least 30 minutes).

Here's what I know its NOT: spark plugs (relatively new), fuse (all are fine), battery (just replaced, holding charge fine, fully charged), alternator (multimeter reading fine, charging system is a-ok), fuel pump (recently replaced, turns on fine when ignition turned to ON).

I am assuming its the starter. I have not yet been "not able" to start the car, it always starts, just sometimes REALLY drags when I go to crank the engine. Is it the starter? Solenoid? How can I test these? Where is the starter located on my car, and is this something I could remove and have tested, or do I need to have it all done at a shop?

My check engine light came on. Went to a local parts shop to get the diagnosis thingy hooked up to get a reading. When all was said and done, the guy said I had a "large vaccuum leak". What is this and is it expensive to replace---going to a small business mechanic versus going to a dealership shop? What kind of expense should I be preparing for?

i recently bought a car w/ a 350 in it. it has a brand new exhaust, but it's quiet. what i'd like to do is remove the muffler and put a flowmaster muffler in its place. it's all clamped together, not welded, the problem is, the clamps made a groove in the metal and now the muffler is stuck in the pipe. how do i get it out? are there any tricks?

I took my ranger to get an alignment and they said that the camber bolts were not factory installed. And they went ahead and did the alignment. When I took my truck elsewhere to get the camber bolts installed they said they were already there but they were badly stripped. What is the cause of this?? Could the first auto repair shop be responsible??

Thanks to all those who answer my first question. My problem now is, I don't know where the thermostat is. I kind of know what it looks like, but I've been looking for it and no succes. I should get one of those car fixing problem books for dummies because I don't know anything about cars, you wonder why I have problems.
If anybody can give me a link with pictures, showing where the darn thing is, will be greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance
