Yes you can but use at least two coats of primer and sand between each coat... They've got an automotive primer that would be better and give you a higher quality finish at Walmart.

You can...or you can use automotive primer. Is the metal *on* an automobile, or do you just happen to have the paint?
If it's just a metal *thing* then go with whatever works. For a car, stick with automotive primer.

NO YOU CAN'T...
well.....you can, but it won't last long.
When painting a car, don't use anything in a spraycan, and only use automotive paints and primers. If you sanded to the metal, or have any exposed metal, you will need a coat of epoxy primer, then urethane primer serfacer.

No. I wouldn't.
Adhesion is a real science. Most automotive paint manufacturers sell very specific products designed to give professional results when using their paint.
Personally, I like PPG, other guys like Dupont or Nason. I like PPG because I like the smell and I always get a great finish out of it.
Start using bush-league products, you'll get bush-league results.
