i am trying to take out a blown head from 91 chevy cavalier and it is giving me a head time. what make so difficult is that the steering pump is in the way. how do take that out?

For the past year the check light on my dashboard kept going off and on. I've taken it to different dealers and they seemed to cannot find the problem. I was told not to worry because the car is running perfectly. All the necessary diagnostic test were done. It is a toyota corolla1999. I'm fed up, what should I do? Serious answers please. I followed the instructions from the manual but it seem difficult to remove the casing on top of the engine? Or should I put more force in it? Seems rather difficult to change an air filter.
