Buying & Selling - December 2006

I have never bought a car before, but I see those deals sometimes where they offer you 3 grand for a total junker as a trade-in...what kind of scam is that, or is it one? My grandma is thinking of cosigning for me, and she has a 900 credit score (perfect), so does that mean, I have more room for negotiating a deal?

I m a recent college graduate and I make pretty good money, I cant decide how i want to deal with my car situation.

A) Lease a brand new G35, or 350Z or maybe the new TL type S , B) do I buy one of those cars but from about 2003-04, maybe the WRX STI or the EVO
C) buy a an older car, for maybe 15 grand and put 5-7 grand into it to make it as fast and clean. Like a 98ish SC300 or 2000 Audi S4 something

i asked earlier about good times to buy cars and since our VPP is 4% below dealer invoice, i was wondering if it really matters when we buy it, since there isn't any haggling.

also, with a vehicle purchasing program, is there anything i need to watch out for on the dealer's end?? can they still stick me with weird fees etc.???

thanks !

I'm wondering which sites one goes to when shopping for a used car on-line. I'd like to post ads about my car on the most popular sites. Craig's List, Yahoo Autos, Edmund's, and Kelley's Blue Book come to mind. Should I post on all of them? Is any of them the most popular?

hey guys just wondering if anybody here has tried government auctions websites.
like at http://www.toptentopdens.com/auctions.html

They reckon you can get up to 95% off retail price because they are seized cars and they give them away cheep coz it cost to much to store them.

Is this crap or have any of you guys saved heeps buying cars this way?

I love my car;, but I don't drive it that much: only 22,000 miles in 4 years. It is in great shape. I think the book value is $15,000. It cost me $276 a month w/$1,000 down to lease. Should I turn it in or buy it? One dealer I talked to said if things go wrong it will be expensive to fix. In 3 to 4 years it will be the same as if I leased a new one and then the car will be 8 years old, w/ 44,000 miles: Will there be that many repairs, probably between now and then, and after that? Expert car owners only please reply.

I recently traded in a 2004 GMC pickup. I miss having it. I would like to find out who bought it, and then see if they are willing to sell it back to me. I have not asked the dealer yet. I don't think they would tell me due to privacy restrictions. I know this sounds crazy...just work with me.

I am looking to buy a used car and I wanted to get a vehicle history report. All of the sites I found say you can get a free report but when you log in the only information thats given to you is the cars descrption. Then they ask you to pay up to $25 for a complete report. Do you know how I can get this report without paying a fee?

Hi, just graduated college and have no idea where to begin, best brand, safest, best mpg etc.

Basically, Im looking for aroun 20k

All the sites i've seen show stars, but they all seem to be around 4-5, so are they all just as safe? Is a Volvo S40 close to the Toyota Prius? They cost about the same.

Any advice? Thanks.

My daughter and I are shopping for a new car for her, something smaller sized and priced,,, this is really the first time i have done this,, since being divorced,,,,,,i dont know if its because we are female, or just salesmen's tactics, our one venture out was irritating,,,,, trying to get exact info, pricing etc,,,,there was more of an attitude, "let us run your credit, and see what you can afford, then we will put you in a car",,,, finding the exact amount of discounts and rebates was also hard,,,,, and the 2007 car we were shown had a scratched left window and the dealers sticker on the back was also scratched and almost rubbed off??? and the car smoked when he backed it out of the space in the lot,,, i found all that very odd ,,,, what i did was just be firm, in wanting the exact price they would sell (or initial price they offered to sell ) the car/cars for,,,,also at the end, the manager of the lot came out, and asked me what price i wanted to pay,,,, is this all normal tactics?

My aunt and I both signed on an 04 vehicle ($20,000). I only owe around $10,000 now, and I want it solely in my name. The problem is, I havent talked to my aunt since I bought the car (3 years ago), and I have no way of contacting her. Is there any way I can have the car put in my name without her signature? She also lives out of state. I believe on the title it says my name OR her name, and I was told that this makes a difference as opposed to if it says my name AND her name. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to purchase a used car from an individual. We both live in Texas. He has the title and I have the cash. What do we need to do? That is, do we need to get something notorized? What paperwork do I need to take to the tax office? What do I need to know before I go to the tax office?
