Buying a car is the second largest purchase a consumer makes after a home. Buying a vehicle is a very personal event. I strongly recommend including your wife in the selection process. Go through car magazines and feel her out. The first step would be to determine the category or type of car she feels comfortable and safe to drive in. Not necessarily the safest vehicle, but what type of vehicle she would feel safe in (e.g. SUV, Sports,Sports Car, Compact, Sedan, PickUp, etc.).

After that you can then determine her driving use and trend. What will she be using the vehicle for, (Kids to school, Work, Shopping, etc). Pair up those two and you have half the battle won. Then determine a budget. This will bring you about 80% of the way. Then do research on reviews of the models you have lined up. Use Consumer's Report, MotorTrend, Car and Driver, Automobile, as good references. This will put you at 90% of the way.

The other 10% will be in personal taste, extra features, utilities, safety options, color, extras, etc. Like I mentioned before, this is a personal use item, a person should feel at ease, at home and happy with what they drive.

Nowadays, most new vehicles are so technology adavanced, that you can pretty much count on most of them, the difference is what you get for your money. Value for your dollar. Compare and depending on your budget, try to get the vehicle that most fits your pocket, not your driveway.

That is too open. We would need to understand personality and what she needs it for. What is the price range you are looking to spend?

It would be a BMW M5, it could be a Kia Sorento.
