How would I go about this with the insurance company. They're sending out an estimator to look at the damage and was told they issue a check based on the assessed damage. Could I cash the insurance check and do my own repairs. I don't care about the minor cosmetic stuff and I can fix mechanical myself.

Yes I seen some orange lights in the sky. ^^ I saw a orange light shoot up from the gorund about 40 miles away with comet like tracers behind it. It hovered or flew around for 2 hours. Occasionaly another orange dot would appear next to it then disapear. Iv seen this before, in that same spot. But I never seen one of those orange lights shoot up from the ground like that. Iv never seen orange lights in the sky anywhere else or maybe i just dont pay attention.

I have an 03 gsx-r and I just went outside to look at it and noticed some of the chords in the tire are showing through!

I have two spares at my house and I think one of them is fairly unused.

Is it ok to ride my bike home? (15 mi.)
Can I put the extra tire on myself or do I need to take it in?

2007 Yamaha V-Star Custom 650. It's due for it's 4000 mile maintenance, but when I spoke to the dealer, he said all it was was an oil change. I don't want to spend 100 dollars for that, so I'll do it myself. What do I need to know? What kind of oil do I buy, do I need a drip pan? How long do I drain the oil?What do I do when I'm done? If someone could take me step-by-step through the entire process, please. Thanks so much! :-)

as a teenager, my dad told me that the best deisel mechanic he knew of was a woman (dad always had a deisel pick-up)... yet I find that a lot of people think that because I am a woman, I am completely oblivious when it comes to mechanics (ie, I remember going into a parts store, and before the guy at the counter would get me the part he asked what the problem was in a very demeaning tone then told me I didn't know what I was talking about... had to fib and tell him that I was getting the part for my dad for him to go get the part). I am going to be enrolling at WyoTech within the next 6 months and eventually plan to own my own shop (a partnership with my nephew who is also going to the school). Just so I know completely what I am getting into, how much gender based bias do you think I am going to run into? And why do guys think that because I am a woman that I don't know anything about cars (besides the fact that most women don't/won't want to get their hands dirty)?

He doesn't have a lift. We are going to go to the store and buy whatever he needs. My question is what should he be buying. We don't want to spend very much money. He's worried about lifting the transmission because it is so heavy.

What are some other things we are going to need also that we probably won't discover until we start working?

I am planning on buying a car later today but I am planning on moving to another state next month. (I live in Alabama and will be moving to California.) Will I need the Alabama plates in order to register the car in California or will the temporary tag be sufficient? And, with the holidays coming, what are the chances that I will even get the plates before I move? (I plan on moving December 17th.)

ok, so, i had factory oil till mod 0'6 basically, (my father didnt do jack to maintain the truck) so i did an oil change and ran some 5-20 through it for a week to clean it out, then replaced that with some 20-40, but now all the valves chatter, and one sounds like it is sticking. could this be the valves becoming loose after the gunk was cleaned out of it? if so, what do i torque them down to?

I was traveling along the road and my DT125('99) cut out as if it had run out of petrol. I checked this and it is 1/2 full and the oil is 1/2 full as well. I checked the spark plug and it was dirty so I put my new spare in. There is a spark from the plug, and the battery is a new one - so I'm thinking that it is these two that are not the problem.
I put the new plug in and tried kicking (I had a few loud miss-fires during this!) However, once I removed the plug again there was a lot of petrol/oil mixture on the spark end of the plug.
So i dried the plug end off, cleaned the casing where the plug sits (and inside) and checked the throttle cable to ensure it was not stuck and opening the throttle - flooding the engine, but that was fine.I have kept the manual petrol OFF and the choke on and tried starting the thing but I have had no luck! I know it is hard to diagnose without looking at it! Please Help!

I was issued a traffic ticket many years ago and was living in San Diego, California at the time. I elected to go to traffic school to rid my record of the infraction I was accused of. This was back in the 80's where you had to physically attend a class. The person teaching the class was a police officer. He always said that the traffics laws written were guidelines. Traffic and moving violations are going to be broken. He told us of a guideline that police officers use...VWSTEW. He said that if any one of these conditions were broken, the officer could give you a ticket.
V=How was the visibility
W=What was the weather like
S=Surface condition of road
T=Time of incident
E=Did you endanger anyone
W=How wide was the road
If none of these factors contributed to the infraction you are accused of, he said you should not get a ticket. However, you would have to remind the officer, subtlely. At the very least you should get a warning. Can anyone validate this reasoning?
